WEEKEND STORYLINES

LAST TIME OUT

The Sooners split a pair of matches against the Jayhawks on the road in Lawrence, Kan., on the weekend. OU took match one, 3-2, before falling in four sets in match two.

Friday's five-set victory over Kansas marked the sixth-straight win over the Jayhawks for the Sooners, dating back to 2018. Megan Wilson led the offense with a career-high 22 kills on the night. Savannah Davison added 17, while Kristen Birmingham picked up 10. Peyton Dunn paced the offense with 48 assists and picked up her eighth double-double of the season with 11 digs. Callie Kemohah tallied 33 digs with Aysia Harty tallying 14 and Sam Anthony adding 10.

On Saturday, the Sooners won the first set before dropping the next three as they fell 26-24, 14-25, 26-28, 22-25 to the Jayhawks.

WILSON EARNS PAIR OF HONORS
Megan Wilson was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week and Offensive Player of the week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Wilson, who was honored as the Big 12 Rookie of the Week on Oct. 11, is the first player in program history to earn two weekly honors in the same week. She is the only Big 12 player this season to be honored in more than one category in the same week.

The Kingwood, Texas, native had a strong weekend for the Sooners and tallied the most kills by a Big 12 athlete on the weekend with 38. On Friday, she posted a career-high 22 kills at a 4.40 kills/set mark. The freshman also got in on three blocks, including two solo. On Saturday, Wilson notched 16 kills on a 4.00 k/s clip and added two digs and two blocks. Her 4.22 kills/set mark on the weekend ranked second in the league.

Wilson's three weekly awards are second most by a Sooner this season. The Sooners have picked up nine weekly awards in 2021 to lead the league. An OU freshman has won rookie of the week in five of the last six weeks. The Sooners are also the only school to have at least one athlete honored in all three categories this season.

WELCOME TO THE BLOCK PARTY
The Sooners defense has been solid in 2021 with some impressive outings. Against TCU, the Sooners recorded a season-best 22.0 blocks. Against Texas Tech, OU notched 10 solo blocks to set a new program record for blocks in a five-set match. OU has recorded double-digit blocks in all but seven matches this season. Within the Big 12, the Sooners rank first with 236 total blocks and second with 2.71 blocks/set. In conference matches only, OU is first with 121.0and 2.81/set.

YOUNG AND HUNGRY
The underclassmen on the 2021 team have been called on to make an immediate impact and have done just that. The only two Sooners to play in every single set this year are freshmen Peyton Dunn and Callie Kemohah. Dunn grabbed the starting setter job and has been a do-it-all athlete as she ranks second on the team in blocks (58.0) and third in digs (172). Kemohah has filled the shoes left by two-time conference libero of the year Keyton Kinley and leads the team with 389 digs and could break into the record books for digs in a season.

Megan Wilson has been an offensive spark for the Sooners, leading the team with 323 kills and a 3.76 kills/set mark. Kristen Birmingham has appeared in 54 sets for the Sooners and made impact plays. The freshman's 41.0 blocks rank fourth on the team with sophomore Kelsey Carrington ranking sixth with 31. Sophomore Sam Anthony has seen significant time as a defensive specialist and ranks second on the team with 193 digs in 86 sets played. Tyler Alcorn has appeared in 62 sets and posted 58.0 total blocks to go with 44 kills.

MAKE A MARK
The 2021 team has already made a mark in the record books. Callie Kemohah's 29 digs in a four-set match against Mississippi State (Sept. 10) are tied for the most in program history. Kemohah is the third Sooner to achieve the mark. Paige Anderson's 18 solo blocks have her tied for sixth all-time for solo blocks in a single season. Megan Wilson's 16 solo blocks rank ninth all-time in program history for a single season mark. As a team, the Sooners tied the program record for solo blocks in a four-set match with 7.0 against Lipscomb (Aug. 28). The Sooners set a new program record for solo blocks in a five-set match with 10.0 against Texas Tech (Oct. 14).

ANDERSON'S GOT AMMO
Senior Paige Anderson has been impressive in Big 12 Play, tallying a career high of 18 kills against West Virginia (Sept. 25) and notching a hitting percentage of at least .350 in seven of her last 10 matches. The senior has now tallied double-digit kills in 10 matches this season and had 10-plus in seven of the last 11. Anderson also leads the defense with 113.0 blocks on the year and 18.0 solo blocks. Her nine blocks against TCU are tied for the most by a Sooner this season. In conference play, Anderson is hitting .290 with 102 kills and has tallied 59.0 blocks.

DUNN DOES IT ALL
Freshman setter Peyton Dunn has made an immediate impact to the OU offense in her first season with the Sooners. The Parker, Colo., native has notched at least 30 assists in all but one match this season and has tallied 40-plus in 10 matches with a career-best of 54 against Texas Tech (Oct. 14). The freshman has also recorded a double-double on eight occasions. She has notched back-to-back double-doubles on three occasions and has recoded a double-double against four of the five Big 12 teams the Sooners have faced so far. Dunn has done it all this season tallying 841 assists (9.767/set), 65 kills, 172 digs and 58.0 blocks.
