NORMAN – The Oklahoma volleyball team fell in straight sets to No. 7 Baylor, 17-25, 14-25, 23-25, Tuesday night inside McCasland Field House.
Savannah Davison led the Sooners with 14 kills with
Megan Wilson adding in 11.
Paige Anderson notched five kills on six attempts for a .833 clip on the night.
Peyton Dunn tallied 28 assists on the night and is now just 26 away from reaching 1,000 assists in her freshman campaign.
Callie Kemohah notched 12 digs to lead the defense. Davison and
Aysia Harty each added seven digs with Wilson tallying six.
Baylor took the first set, 25-17. The Sooners fought to tie the match at 8-all, before a 7-1 Baylor run. Out of the first media timeout, Wilson picked up a kill to pull the Sooners within five. Baylor used a 5-2 run to take an eight-point lead, 20-12, and force OU to call timeout. Out of the timeout, the teams split the final 10 points, with Baylor taking the set.
The Bears took set two, 25-14. The teams were tied early in the second set before a 4-0 Bears made it 7-3. Out of a timeout, Wilson used her sixth kill of the match to end the run. Baylor would extend its lead to eight points, 14-6, to force the Sooners to call their second timeout of the set. Out of the timeout, OU used a 6-3 run to pull within five. Baylor closed out the set with a 8-2 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
With the third set tied at 4-all, a block from Birmingham gave OU its first lead of the set. The Sooners kept the lead as a kill from Davison gave them an 11-8 advantage. At the first media timeout, OU remained in control, 15-12. Baylor tied the match at 18 before a kill from Davison gave OU the lead back. The teams would trade points to a tie at 22-22 with Baylor pulling ahead to match point, 24-22. Wilson tallied a kill to pull within one, but Baylor would take the set, 25-23.
OU is back in action Wednesday at 4 p.m. CT for the season finale.
