Fields, Mead Named to Academic All-District Team

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma football defensive back Pat Fields and linebacker Bryan Mead were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 Football Team for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
 
Fields, a CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American in 2020, is a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy and a semifinalist for the Wuerffel Trophy and the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award. He has compiled a 3.82 GPA while simultaneously pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting and a master's degree in accounting. He is projected to complete both in December 2021.
 
The Tulsa, Okla., product is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree (2019-21) and was twice elected as a team captain by his teammates (2020 and 2021). He was a Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominee and OU's nominee for the 2021 Big 12 Male Sportsperson of the Year award.
 
In his third year as a starter at safety, Fields has played in 40 career games (34 starts) and has compiled 183 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, 10 pass breakups and two interceptions. He is second on the team with his 61 tackles (39 solo) and has 3.5 TFLs and an interception through 10 games this season.
 
Mead received his bachelor's degree in health and exercise science in December 2020 and is pursuing his MBA. A five-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree (2017-21), he has compiled a combined 3.98 GPA in his undergraduate and grad programs. He has been recognized as a 4.0-member of the Academic All-Big 12 teams three times.
 
The Owasso, Okla., product has played in a school-record 62 games during his OU career (next most is 55). He has registered 56 career tackles (26 solo), one forced fumble and a pass breakup. Fourteen of Mead's 35 tackles over the 2020 and '21 seasons have come on special teams, including eight on kickoffs.
 
Fields and Mead are now eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which will be announced on Dec. 15.
