AUSTIN, Texas – The Oklahoma volleyball team dropped a three-set match to the No. 2 Texas Longhorns Thursday night inside Gregory Gymnasium.
The Longhorns (19-1, 10-1 Big 12) topped the Sooners (10-14, 4-9 Big 12) 25-22, 25-14, 25-13. Texas outhit the Sooners on a .442 to .122 clip with a 44-27 advantage in kills.
Megan Wilson led the Sooners with nine kills on the night, followed by eight from
Savannah Davison.
Paige Anderson chipped in seven kills to go along with six digs.
Peyton Dunn notched 21 assists.
Callie Kemohah tallied seven digs to lead the team while
Olivia LittleJim added five and Davison notched four.
The top blocking team in the Big 12, the Sooners were held to just three blocks on the night while Texas tallied 16.
The Sooners pulled even with the Longhorns early in the first set as a kill from Wilson made it 5-all. Texas pulled ahead by four at 11-7, but an ace from Kemohah and a kill from Birmingham cut the lead to two. At the first timeout of the set, the Longhorns led 14-12. Out of the break, the Sooners pulled within one but Texas increased its lead to 20-16. An ace from LittleJim made it 21-20 in favor of Texas, forcing the Longhorns to call timeout. The Longhorns ultimately took set one, 25-22.
In set two, the Sooners trailed 8-2 early. Back-to-back attack errors by the Longhorns helped the Sooners cut the lead to 14-7. A kill from Wilson made it a five-point game, 15-10. Texas used a 10-4 run to close the set and win 25-14.
In the final set, Texas jumped out to a 9-2 lead. A kill from Davison made it 11-7 as the Sooners fought to cut the Longhorns lead. Texas took the third set 25-13 to take the match.
The Sooners and Longhorns will return to the court tomorrow at 7 p.m. on the Longhorn Network.
