DOUBLE THE FUN
Freshmen
Peyton Dunn and
Callie Kemohah were named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. This is the third weekly honor for Dunn who was named the conference rookie of the week on Sept. 7 and Sept. 28. Kemohah picked up her second career honor after earning the defensive player of the week nod on Sept. 14. The five combined weekly honors are the most by any school this season.
Dunn repeated as the rookie of the week after recording a pair of double-doubles on the weekend. In Friday's 3-1 victory over K-State, Dunn tallied 48 assists with a career-best 12 digs. On Saturday, Dunn tallied 37 assists to bring her weekend total to 85, while also tallying another 12 digs. Dunn now has six double-doubles on the year. The Parker, Colo., native added eight kills on the weekend and two blocks.
Kemohah is the only freshman to have earned defensive player of the week this season and is only the second repeat winner. The Lucas, Texas, native helped lead the Sooners to their first Big 12 win of the season as she recorded 19 digs to go along with five assists on Friday. Kemohah was just shy of her career high on Saturday, tallying 27 digs in the loss to average 6.75 digs per set. Her 5.75 digs per set over the weekend led the Big 12.
RUN IT BACK
In 2019, the Sooners and Frogs played an epic four-set match that saw a 36-34 fourth set that clinched the match for the Sooners. OU won the wild fourth set that saw 17 ties and 11 lead changes. The Sooners climbed back from a five-point deficit early on to tie the set at 19-all. OU would get to match point four times, but TCU would continue to battle.
Brianna Kadiku came up with a solo block to bring up the final match point and an error from TCU would clinch the match for Oklahoma.
In 2020, the Sooners faced TCU in a non-conference road match sweeping the Frogs, 3-0. When the two teams met in Norman to close out spring conference play, TCU took both matches in four sets.
ROAD WARRIORS
With 15 matches under their belts, the Sooners have been on the road for nine of those 15 matches and will hit the road once again to play TCU. In true road matches, the Sooners are 2-3 on the year and 3-1 in neutral site matches.
MAKE A MARK
The 2021 team has already made a mark in the record books.
Callie Kemohah's 29 digs in a four-set match against Mississippi State (Sept. 10) are tied for the most in program history. Kemohah is the third Sooner to achieve the mark. As a team, the Sooners tied the program record for solo blocks in a four-set match with 4.0 against Lipscomb (Aug. 28).
YOUNG AND HUNGRY
The underclassmen on the 2021 team have been called on to make an immediate impact and have done just that. The only two Sooners to play in every single set this year are freshmen
Peyton Dunn and
Callie Kemohah. Dunn grabbed the starting setter job and has been a do-it-all athlete as she ranks second on the team in blocks (39.0) and third in digs (123). Kemohah has filled the shoes left by two-time conference libero of the year
Keyton Kinley and leads the team with 264 digs and could break into the record books for digs in a season.
Megan Wilson has controlled the offense for the Sooners, leading the team with 231 kills and a 3.92 kills/set mark.
Kristen Birmingham has appeared in 42 sets for the Sooners and made impact plays. The freshman's 32.0 blocks rank third on the team with sophomore
Kelsey Carrington ranking fourth with 31. Sophomore
Sam Anthony has seen significant time as a defensive specialist and ranks second on the team with 138 digs in 59 sets played.
Tyler Alcorn has appeared in 35 sets with eight starts and posted 35.0 total blocks to go with 21 kills.
ANDERSON'S GOT AMMO
Senior
Paige Anderson had an impressive start to Big 12 play, tallying a career high of 18 kills against West Virginia (Sept. 25) and notching a hitting percentage of at least .350 in each of her last five matches. The senior has now tallied double-digit kills in eight matches this season and had 10-plus in each of the last five. Anderson also leads the defense with 71.0 blocks on the year and 12.0 solo blocks. Her eight blocks against Lipscomb are the most by a Sooner this season. In conference play, Anderson is hitting .408 with 56 kills. She has also added 11 digs and 17 blocks.
DUNN DOES IT ALL
Freshman setter
Peyton Dunn has made an immediate impact to the OU offense in her first season with the Sooners. The Parker, Colo., native has notched at least 35 assists in every match this season and has tallied 40-plus in seven matches with a career-best of 50 against Houston (Aug. 28). The freshman has also recorded a double-double on six occasions, most recently against Kansas State on Oct. 2. Dunn has done it all this season tallying 605 assists (10.08/set), 51 kills, 123 digs and 39.0 blocks. The freshman ranks 18th in the nation in total assists and is one of only two Big 12 players in the top 20.
