NORMAN – Peyton Dunn recorded her sixth career double-double in a four-set loss to Kansas State Saturday afternoon inside McCasland Field House. The Sooners (7-8, 1-3 Big 12) were bested by the Wildcats (10-5, 1-3 Big 12), 25-19, 22-25, 19-25, 16-25.
Dunn recorded her second double-double of the weekend with 37 assists and 12 digs. The freshman setter continued her streak of having at least 35 assists in every game this season. Dunn also chipped in five kills at a .571 clip along with one block.
Paige Anderson tallied 10 kills on a .471 clip to lead the offense.
Megan Wilson was in double digits with 11 kills on the night and
Savannah Davison added nine.
Callie Kemohah tallied 27 digs to lead the defense with
Sam Anthony adding in eight. Of the Sooners' eight blocks, Anderson got in on five.
With the teams trading points early, OU took a 10-7 lead to force the Wildcats to call timeout in the first set. Out of the break the Sooners pulled ahead 16-11, but K-State used a 6-1 run to tie the match at 17-all. OU capitalized on a 5-1 run, forcing K-State to call another timeout. With set point on the line, Wilson and Anderson combined for the block to take set one, 25-19.
K-State took an early 9-6 lead in the second set, but an error allowed the Sooners to grab momentum. OU used a 3-0 scoring run, including an ace from Dunn to tie things at 9-all. The tie didn't last long as K-State used their own 4-0 scoring run to force the Sooners to call timeout. Out of the break, the Wildcats took a five-point lead, but the Sooner offense fought back to bring the game to 20-19. Ultimately, K-State would take the set, 25-22.
In the third set, K-State took a 13-7 lead early. OU responded out of a timeout by using a 3-0 run and a
Kristen Birmingham kill to force K-State into calling timeout. The Sooners made it a 19-17 game, but K-State put it away with a 25-19 win.
The Wildcats took set four, 25-16 to take the match. K-State went on a 9-0 run to start the second set and take an 11-2 lead. The Sooners fought back, using a 4-0 scoring run and impressive defense to pull within four at 14-10. OU couldn't overcome the fast start by K-State as the Wildcats used an 11-6 run to take the match.
The Sooners will head to Fort Worth to face TCU, Oct. 8-9.
