NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's tennis team gave No. 3 Texas all it could handle Saturday in Norman as the Red River matchup came down to a three-set battle on the top court. The Sooners narrowly fell to the Longhorns 4-3 in a marathon match.
"I'm very proud of how hard the team battled today," said head coach Audra Cohen. "We brought a lot of energy and we stayed focused throughout the match. We need to continue to improve and stay humble and hard working because we have a lot of great opportunities ahead."
"Hats off to a well coached Texas team," said assistant coach
Blake Mosley. "They were just a little more disciplined than us down the stretch when things got tight. We had lots of positives though and we're looking forward to building on those the rest of the season."
OU (3-1) took the doubles point before the teams traded singles wins. The doubles point was good for the Sooners' fourth straight this season.
Carmen and
Ivana Corley stayed undefeated at the top spot with a 6-4 win over Lulu Sun and Kylie Collins. The Corleys jumped out to a 4-2 lead before the Longhorns tied things at 4-all, but the Sooners won the next two games to put their match away.
