OU Heads to No. 13 Tennessee Saturday

January 15, 2021 | Men's Tennis

NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's tennis team heads to SEC country for an early road test at No. 13 Tennessee on Saturday. The match is set for a 9 a.m. CT start in Knoxville.

"We know Tennessee's got a great squad," said OU head coach Nick Crowell. "Last year we had a battle with them and we're looking forward to going there and playing on the road. We love going on the road and getting tighter as a team."

The Sooners and the Vols met in Norman last season in a top-25 clash. No. 18 Tennessee prevailed 4-3. The Sooners gave up the doubles point, but battled back in singles to bring the match down to the final contest.

OU enters Saturday's matchup after opening the season with a 7-0 route of UIW at home on Wednesday. The Sooners took the doubles point handily, then reeled off six straight singles wins, including a near-perfect, 6-1, 6-0 performance by Max Stewart at the No. 5 spot.

Saturday's contest will serve as Tennessee's season opener. The Volunteers compiled a 14-2 record in a shortened 2020 season and went 12-1 at home.
Tennessee enters 2021 ranked No. 13 in the ITA team rankings, while two Vols checked into the singles rankings. Adam Walton is No. 24 while Pat Harper is No. 124.

The match is set for a 9 a.m. CT start Saturday at the Goodfriend Tennis Center. Live stats and will be available.
