OU Falls to No. 13 Vols

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Oklahoma men's tennis team fell to No. 13 Tennessee 5-2 Saturday in the Sooners' first road match of the season.
OU dropped the doubles point, but sophomores Alex Martinez and Justin Schlageter came away with singles wins.
In doubles, the Volunteers struck first on court two with Mark Wallner and Andrew Rogers defeating OU's Jonathan Sheehy and Alex Martinez 6-3. Mark Mandlik and Welsh Hotard quickly leveled things when they defeated Joel Gamerov and Giles Hussey 6-3 on court three. The point came down to court one, where Mason Beiler and Max Stewart battled Martim Prada and Johannus Monday, but fell 6-4.
Schlageter tallied a singles win at the No. 6 line as he held on to defeat Tennessee's Rogers after a 10-point tie breaker. Schlageter gave up the first set 4-6 but flipped the script in the second to claim it 7-5 and kept a foot on the gas to take the breaker, 1-0 [3].
Martinez also won his court in a 10-point tiebreaker. The sophomore won his first set 6-4 before UT's Wallner took the second frame 7-6 (7) to force a breaker. Martinez came out on top, 1-0 [4].
Elsewhere in singles, No. 69 Beiler fell to Johannus Monday, 6-2, 6-2 on court one. Mandlik was defeated by Prata, 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 2 line. Stewart dropped to Hussey 6-2, 6-4 on court three, and freshman Nathan Han fell to Luca Wiedenmann 6-1, 6-4 at the five spot.

The Sooners head to Fort Worth next weekend for ITA Kickoff Weekend at TCU OU will open the tournament with Wake Forest on Jan. 23 with TCU and Denver square off on the other side of the bracket.
