2020 OU MLB Draft Central

While some things change, some things remain the same. Despite an abbreviated 2020 MLB Draft -- just five rounds -- Oklahoma continued its steady pipeline to the pros.

The Sooners had four players selected in the first four rounds of the MLB Draft for the first time in program history. With four selections, OU tied Vanderbilt and Michigan for the second-most players taken in 2020, trailing only the five by Arizona State.

OU Draft History

A total of 281 Sooners have been selected in the MLB Draft, including 20 first rounders. At least one player has been drafted every year since 1970, and OU has had at least one player picked in the top 10 rounds every year since 2011.

Cade Cavalli's selection by the Washington Nationals at No. 22 overall was Oklahoma's second first rounder in the last three years, following Kyler Murray, who was drafted ninth overall by the Oakland Athletics in 2018.

At Oklahoma: A member of the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team in 2019... served as OU's Friday night starter in 2019 and 2020... began his career as a two-way player before deciding to focus on pitching prior to the 2020 season... posted a 9-7 record with a 4.09 ERA for his career, including a 6-4 mark and a 3.54 ERA over his last two seasons... 2020 Big 12 Preseason Pitcher of the Year... selected to Baseball America Preseason All-America third team... made four starts in 2020 compiling 37 strikeouts and only five walks in 23.3 innings... struck out 11 batters with no walks over 5.0 innings vs. Arkansas in the 2020 Shriners College Classic... tossed 7.0 innings, striking out nine and allowing one run and one walk vs. Illinois State... a first-team All-Big 12 utility player in 2019... went 5-3 with a 3.28 ERA in 60.1 innings over 12 starts on the mound, and batted .319 with four home runs, five doubles, two triples, 17 RBIs and 16 runs scored in 72 at bats as a designated hitter... as a freshman in 2018, he made 11 relief appearances and two starts on the mound and had 193 at bats in 53 starts in the lineup. At Oklahoma: A senior catcher who contributed all four years at OU and started consistently in each of the last three... played in 148 games with 121 starts in his career... hit .275 with 10 home runs, 26 doubles, six triples, 79 RBIs and 66 runs scored… registered a .991 career fielding percentage... started 14 of the team's 18 contests in 2020, hitting .271 with six extra base hits and 13 RBIs... also stole two bases (had three in his career)... earned All-Big 12 honorable mention honors in 2019... started 47 games and hit .291 with 11 doubles, four triples, five home runs, 34 RBIs, 26 runs scored and 21 walks... made 46 starts in 2018 and hit .262 with 26 RBIs and 13 extra base hits... appeared in 31 games and started 14 as a freshman in 2017, and hit .271 with a .394 on-base percentage. Dane Acker | RHP | 6-2 | 189

At Oklahoma: Transferred to Oklahoma from San Jacinto College after spending his freshman season at Rice University... made four starts, posting a 1-1 record and 3.51 ERA... struck out 28 batters and allowed just five walks and a .170 opponent batting average in 25.2 innings... turned in one of the greatest performances in program history when he pitched a no-hitter against No. 11 LSU on March 1 in the Shriners College Classic... he struck out 11 batters and walked just one in the effort... began his OU career with 5.0 innings with one hit and one run allowed to help the Sooners win the series over Virginia... at San Jacinto College, he went 10-0 with a 2.36 ERA in 14 starts... struck out 97 batters in 76.1 innings and allowed 59 hits and a .208 opponent batting average... spent his freshman season at Rice, where he posted a 5-2 record with a 4.20 ERA, earning Conference USA All-Freshman Team honors.
