January 29, 2020 | Baseball

NORMAN - University of Oklahoma seniors Brady Lindsly and Jason Ruffcorn, along with juniors Cade Cavalli and Levi Prater were selected to the Preseason All-Big 12 Baseball Team in a vote by the league's head coaches. Cavalli, a right handed pitcher, was tabbed as the Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

With four selections, Oklahoma boasts the second-most preseason all-conference honorees. Texas Tech leads the pack with six selections, while Baylor, Texas and West Virginia each have a pair and Kansas and Oklahoma State each have one player on the preseason team.Ā

Cavalli (Bixby, Okla.) compiled a 5-3 record on the mound in 2019 with a 3.28 ERA, good for sixth in the Big 12. The junior racked up 59 strikeouts in 60.1 innings last season in addition to tallying 72 at-bats, in which he hit .319 with four home runs and 17 RBI. He made an appearance for USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team last summer and threw 2.2 innings with one punchout.

In conference play, he hit .289 with 19 RBI and 14 runs scored while recording a .343 on-base percentage. In three seasons at OU, Lindsly has compiled a .276 batting average, 113 hits, 66 RBI, 24 doubles and 56 runs scored in 134 games.Ā

Prater, a left handed pitcher from Ada, Okla., compiled a 10-8 record on the mound in 2019 with a 3.58 ERA. In 16 appearances across 80.0 innings, the southpaw struck out 97 batters and walked 43. He was a part of three of the Sooners' five combined shutouts and allowed opponents to hit just .211 against him.Ā

Ruffcorn, a right handed pitcher from Cedar Park, Texas, picked up 11 saves in 2019 with a 2.43 ERA in his first season with the Sooners. In 30 appearances over 37.0 innings of work, he struck out 28 batters and allowed just six extra base hits. Ruffcorn was a part of two of Oklahoma's five combined shutouts. In conference play, he was 2-1 on the mound with five saves in 18.2 innings pitched.Ā
