Cavalli Tabbed as Preseason All-American

NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma baseball team's junior right-handed pitcher Cade Cavalli has been named to Baseball America's 2020 Preseason All-America Third Team. 

Cavalli was one of just two Big 12 players to garner preseason All-America recogntition from Baseball America. 

Cavalli, a two-way player, made 12 appearances with a 5-3 record and 3.28 ERA in 2019. He was voted an All-Big 12 first-team utility member by the league's coaches. The primary Friday night starter in 2019, Cavalli struck out 59 batters and allowed 22 earned runs across 60.1 innings. At the plate, he hit .319 with five doubles, four home runs, two triples, 17 RBIs and 16 runs scored in 72 at bats. 

Through two seasons, Cavalli owns a career record of 8-5 and a career ERA of 4.06. fanning 77 over 23 appearances and 77.2 innings pitched. He is a career .234 hitter with 62 hits, 45 RBI, 12 doubles and 10 home runs in 265 at-bats. 

OU enters the 2020 season ranked No. 19 in the Baseball America Top 25 and No. 24 in the D1Baseball Preseason Top 25. OU is also ranked No. 16 by Perfect Game and No. 30 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's preseason top 40.

Oklahoma opens the 2020 season Feb. 14-16 against Virginia in Pensacola, Fla., and opens its home schedule Feb. 18-19 against Texas Southern at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
