Doolittle Named Big 12 Player of the Week

February 17, 2020 | Men's Basketball

NORMAN – For the third time this season, Oklahoma senior forward Kristian Doolittle has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week. The conference announced the honor on Monday.

Doolittle boasted averages of 23.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.5 assists and 3.0 3-point field goals. His 23.5 points per game led the league and were 6.5 points higher than the second-highest scoring average.

In addition to scoring, Doolittle ranked in the league's top four in 3-pointers (second), rebounds (fourth) and steals (fourth) for the week.

The senior began his week by leading the Sooners to a 29-point win over Iowa State, producing 20 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

He followed up his performance by totaling 27 points, 12 rebounds and a career-high five 3-pointers on Saturday at Kansas. Doolittle's 27 points are the most scored by a visiting player in Allen Fieldhouse this season.

Doolittle also recorded 27 points and 12 rebounds on the previous Saturday (Feb. 8 vs. West Virginia). No other Big 12 player has reached those numbers in a game this season while Doolittle has accomplished it twice in a three-game stretch. Blake Griffin is the only other Sooner to ever produce 27 points and 12 rebounds in a Big 12 game.

Doolittle's three Player of the Week honors are tied with Kansas' Devon Dotson for the most in the conference this season.

The Sooners return to action on Tuesday when they host No. 1 Baylor at 8 p.m. on ESPN2. The matchup will be the first time OU has hosted a No. 1-ranked team since 1997.

Doolittle will enter the marquee matchup averaging 24.7 points and 10.0 rebounds over his previous three games.
