Sooners to Host WVU in Fall Finale

NORMAN –  The Oklahoma volleyball team returns to the friendly confines of McCasland Field House for the final two matches of the fall season Thursday and Friday. The Sooners will host West Virginia at 6 p.m. both nights inside the Field House. The matches will air on Fox Sports Oklahoma. The senior class of Paige Anderson, Paige Johnson, Keyton Kinley, Sarah Maras, Kylee McLaughlin, Kira Morikawa and Sarah Sanders will be honored in a post-match ceremony on Friday.

WEEKEND STORYLINES

SENIOR NIGHT
The senior class will be honored Friday night after the conclusion of the match. The senior class is a combined 45-50 in their career with an NCAA Tournament Appearance in 2019.

 A two-time All-Big 12 Second Team selection, Paige Anderson has tallied 640 kills and 313 blocks in her career as a Sooner. With over 319 sets played, she has been a backbone of this Sooner squad. In her first season with the Sooners in 2019, Paige Johnson appeared in 98 sets over 27 matches and tallied 22 service aces. She added 238 digs with double-digit digs on 10 occasions.

The two-time Big 12 Libero of the Year, Keyton Kinley has been a leader for the Sooners in her three years. She has tallied 1,199 digs & has been a 2-time All-Southwest Region First-Team honoree. Sooner born and bred, Sarah Maras has been the definition of a team player. She has notched 359 kills, 117 blocks and 199 digs in 74 career matches.

The 2018 Big 12 Co-Setter of the Year, Kylee was a two-time All-Big 12 First-Team Selection and two-time All-Southwest Region honoree. The Sooners' Hawaiian native, Kira Morikawa has appeared in 153 sets over four years. She has tallied 234 digs, 22 assists and six service aces as a Sooner.

An All-Big 12 First Team selection, Sarah Sanders has been a force for the Sooners during her four years. She has tallied 590 kills. 247 blocks and 99 digs in her career.

DIOUF EARNS THIRD BIG 12 HONOR
Oklahoma outside hitter Guewe Diouf has been named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, the conference announced Tuesday. Diouf was named the Rookie of the Week on Sept. 29 and Oct. 20. She is the first Sooner to win three awards in a season since 2018 when Keyton Kinley was named Defensive Player of the Week five times. Diouf is the first to earn three Rookie of the Week awards since Julia Doyle in 2012.

The Marignane, France, native tallied 39 kills on the weekend, including a career-high 23 against Texas Tech on Nov. 12. The following night she notched 16 kills to give her a weekend average of 5.57 kills per set. Diouf also added 14 digs on the weekend. Diouf has now tallied double-digit kills in nine of 10 matches this season and has reached the 20-kill mark twice.

SIGNING DAY
On Nov. 11, the Sooners signed an impressive squad of five athletes during the early signing period. Kristen Birmingham, Callie Cogdill, Peyton Dunn, Callie Kemohah and Megan Wilson will all join the Sooners in 2021.

A 6-1 outside hitter out of Kansas City, Mo., Birmingham is a four-year letterwinner at Park Hill High School. She has notched 745 kills, 120 blocks, 458 digs and 28 aces in her high school career. She was named to the Under Armour All-American Third Team.
A native of Cypress, Texas, Cogdill is a four-year letterwinner at Cypress Woods High School. In her career, she has tallied 1,200 digs, including 568 in her junior season.Cogdill has added 640 assists and 75 aces to her career numbers.

A 5-11 setter, Dunn is a three-year letter winner out of Legend High School. Her freshman season, she played in the final four of the state tournament, followed by an elite eight appearance as a sophomore. As a senior, she was named to the Under Armour All-American Third Team.As a junior, Dunn tallied 1,407 assists, 416 digs, 300 kills and 106 aces in her high school career.

Kemohah is a 5-6 libero out of Lucas, Texas where she is a four-year letterwinner at Lovejoy High School. As a senior, she was named to the Under Armour All-American Third Team.In her career, she has tallied 1,519 digs, 255 assists and 97 aces.
Wilson is a 6-4 middle blocker/outside hitter out of Kingwood High School in Kingwood, Texas. Recently, she was named to the Under Armour All-American Third Team. In two seasons, she has notched 438 kills, 103 blocks, 127 digs and 41 aces. She was a district champion as a junior.

SCHEDULE UPDATES
Due to postponements, two Oklahoma volleyball conference series will be rescheduled in the spring season. The OU series at Iowa State and the home series against TCU will now be played in spring of 2021. Dates and times will be announced when available. The Sooners will wrap up the fall slate Thursday and Friday (Nov. 19-20) when they host West Virginia inside McCasland Field House.

The All-Big 12 volleyball awards and academic team will be announced in the spring once all Conference matches have been completed.

QUICK HITS

  • OU leads the all-time series, 16-1. West Virginia's only came in 2017 and the Sooners have won five-straight matches since the loss.
  • In the last five meetings between the two teams, the Sooners have given up just three sets.
  • The Sooners are looking to snap a four-match losing streak, while West Virginia is looking to snap a two-match loss streak.

SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA

West Virginia is 7-7 on the season and currently sits in fourth place in the Big 12 after being picked to finish last by the league's coaches in the preseason poll. The Mountaineers are coming off a pair of losses to No. 1 and Big 12 Champion, Texas. West Virginia has earned three series sweeps this season, taking the series from Kansas, TCU and Iowa State. The Mountaineers have played six three-set matches this season, including a streak of five in a row in October. WVU is led offensively by Kristin Lux and Natali Petrova who have each notched 153 kills this season and are both averaging 2.64 kills per set.
