LUBBOCK, Texas – The Oklahoma volleyball team fell, 3-1, to Texas Tech Thursday night inside United Supermarkets Arena. The Sooners were ousted 19-25, 27-25, 21-25, 25-27.
Texas Tech (4-9) narrowly out-hit Oklahoma (2-7), .286 to .284 on the night and held a 62-55 kill advantage. Tech also led in digs, 56-48, but OU's defense tallied 13.0 blocks to the Red Raiders 6.0.
Guewe Diouf set a career high with 23 kills on the night and added nine digs. Sanaa Dotson notched a career-high 17 kills while adding eight digs. Sarah Maras and Sarah Sanders each added six kills.
Keyton Kinley led the Sooners with 13 digs. Sam Anthony added seven and Olivia Curtis chipped in five. Anthony and Curtis each notched double-digit assists with 21 and 17, respectively.
Tyler Alcorn once again led OU with 10.0 blocks. Sanders got in on four, while Diouf and Abby Butler each tallied three.
Texas Tech took the opening frame, 25-19. After the Red Raiders jumped out to a 20-13 lead, the Sooners used a 4-0 run to pull within four. Tech used a 5-2 run to close out the set.
The Sooners took set two, 27-25. OU used a 6-1 run to start the second set, but Tech climbed back to tie the set at 13-all. The Red Raiders held their lead, but the Sooners pulled back to make it square at 19. OU fought off two set points and used a kill from Diouf to clinch the second set.
Tech took set three, 25-21. The set started off with the teams trading points up to 8-8. Tech pulled away and held the lead to take the 2-1 advantage after three sets. In set four, OU led 10-3 early and held their lead up to set point. Tech tied the match at 24-all and used a 3-1 run to take the set, 27-25, and the match.
The Sooners and Red Raiders will face off again on Friday at 4 p.m. inside United Supermarkets Arena.
