October 21, 2020 | Men's Basketball
NORMAN – The Big 12 and Southeastern Conferences announced Wednesday the matchups for the 2021 SEC/Big 12 Challenge. Oklahoma will host Alabama at Lloyd Noble Center on Saturday, January 30.
The eighth annual event will consist of 10 games as every Big 12 member faces 10 squads from the SEC. This will mark the sixth consecutive year for all games to be played in one day. ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise the contests.
The Big 12 has a yearly Challenge record of 4-1-2 with wins in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019. The two leagues tied in 2020.
The Sooners own a 5-3 advantage in their all-time series with the Crimson Tide. Alabama won the most recent matchup in 2018 when future lottery pick point guards Trae Young and Collin Sexton squared off in Tuscaloosa.
Oklahoma is 5-2 in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge with previous wins over Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, LSU, Missouri and Texas A&M. OU's five wins in the event tie for second most among Big 12 teams.
Under Lon Kruger, Oklahoma is 13-9 against current SEC teams, including 11-5 against schools which were SEC members at the time of competition. The Sooners have won five straight games against SEC schools.
Coming off a third-place finish in the Big 12, the Sooners return over 70% of their scoring behind seniors Brady Manek (14.4 points, 6.2 rebounds) and Austin Reaves (14.7 points, 5.3 rebounds).
Oklahoma will begin the 2020-21 season in late November. A full schedule is expected to be released soon.
