FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team took home its second straight Metroplex Challenge victory defeating a trio of top 20 teams. The Sooners used a 197.525 to defeat No. 5 Alabama (196.575), No. 4 Denver (196.525) and No. 18 Georgia (196.300) inside the Fort Worth Convention Center Saturday night.
OU improved to 9-0 on the season after picking up three wins tonight. The Sooners wrapped up a grueling eight-day stretch as they competed in their third meet in the last eight days.

"You can definitely see little mistakes coming out," head coach K.J. Kindler said. "Perhaps it's from fatigue, perhaps just not enough time in the gym. We've been traveling and competing more than any other team in the country with five meets already under our belt. It'll be nice to get back in and redefine the things that need work, pinpoint areas we need to improve and focus on the polish that makes us who we are."

Junior Anastasia Webb had an incredible meet, tying her career high on vault with a 9.95. The Morton Grove, Ill., native added a 9.9 on bars, beam and floor to earn a 39.650 all-around score and take home a share of the all-around title. Webb also took home a share of the beam and floor titles.

"To see Anastasia rise up under the pressure of the meet was impressive," Kindler said. "Her performance tonight was confident and dynamic. She's a phenomenal all-around athlete. Every single event, she's a 9.9 plus and that's what the very best all-around competitors are. I'm really excited to see her put some of her best performances of the year on the floor tonight."

Senior Maggie Nichols took home the vault title with a 9.975 and shared the beam title with Webb. Freshman Vanessa Deniz made her debut on floor, taking home a share of the floor title with a 9.9. Ā

The Sooners opened the meet with a strong 49.475 on vault. Alabama was close behind with a 49.450 on bars, followed by Georgia with a 49.025 on beam and Denver with a 48.975 on floor.

Freshman Brooke Weins led things off with a 9.800 on her Yurchenko full. Sophomore Allie Stern followed with a Yurchenko 1.5 for a 9.85, and senior Jade Degouveia added a 9.9 in the No. 3 spot.

Webb landed her 1.5 cold, tying her career high with a 9.95. Nichols was nearly perfect for the third straight meet as she earned a 9.975 on her 1.5.

"We started off on fire on vault, seeing three of the best vaults of the year," Kindler said. "Overall, it was some of the best landings we've had on that event. Our other three line-ups saw a lot of changes in personnel with new faces inserted as well as new starters on bars and beam. We had eight routines from newcomers which is 33 percent of our line-up. All in all, a great learning experience for everyone."

OU took a larger lead in the second rotation, earning a 49.475 on bars. Denver went 49.225 on vault, while Alabama and Georgia scored a 49.100 on beam and floor, respectively.

Webb got the rotation started strong with a 9.9. Sophomore Olivia Trautman notched a 9.875 in the No. 2 spot, followed by a 9.875 from Deniz in her collegiate debut. Degouveia had the high score of the rotation, notching a 9.925 in the No. 4 spot. Nichols anchored with a 9.9.

On beam, the Sooners notched a 49.225. Denver tallied a 49.500 on bars, while Alabama posted a 49.075 on floor and Georgia went 48.950 on vault.

Freshman Jenna Dunn led off with a 9.75, followed by a 9.875 from junior Carly Woodard. Webb continued her solid night, adding a 9.90 in the No. 4 spot. Freshman Ragan Smith added a 9.800 and Nichols anchored with a 9.90.

On floor, OU used a 49.350 to take home victory. Denver tallied a 48.875 on beam with Alabama notching a 48.950 on vault and UGA recording a 49.225 on bars.

Three Texans led off the floor rotation as Smith, junior Jordan Draper and sophomore Emma LaPinta all hail from the Metroplex. The trio put up three straight 9.85s to get things going in the final rotation.

Webb wrapped up her all-around night by posting a 9.9, good enough to give her the all-around title. In the anchor spot, Deniz stepped up big for the Sooners, earning a 9.9 as she competed on three events in her collegiate debut.
