Sooners Fall to South Carolina

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The No. 22 Oklahoma men's tennis team fell to No. 15 South Carolina 4-0 Saturday in the first round of ITA Kickoff Weekend in Starkville, Miss.

OU moves to 3-2 on the season, while South Carolina stays undefeated at 4-0.

South Carolina claimed the doubles point to open the match. OU's Jake Van Emburgh and Stefano Tsorotiotis upset No. 39 Raphael Lambling and Daniel Rodrigues 6-3 at the top spot, the Gamecocks won the remaining courts. On court two, Mason Beiler and Max Stewart fell short of Paul Jubb and Conoor Thomson 6-3. Jochen Bertsch and Mandlik fell to South Carolina's Phillip Jordan and Beau Pelletier 6-0 at the No. 3 line.

Tsorotiotis was defeated by No. 39 Lambling 6-2, 6-0 on court three. Martinez fell to No. 106 Thompson 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 4 line. South Carolina clinched the match when the Gamecocks' Jordan defeated OU's No. 116 Bertsch 6-1, 6-3 on court five.

When play was halted, Van Emburgh was up 6-5 in the second set on court one. The junior dropped the opening stanza to Jubb 6-1, but rallied and was just a game away from sending his court to a third set.

No. 50 Beiler trailed USC's No. 21 Rodriguez 2-1 in the second set after battling to take set one 7-5 on court two.

Schlageter was headed to a third set with Pelletier at the No. 6 line. The OU freshman rolled through his first set 6-2 before Pelletier took the second 6-4.
