September 03, 2019 | Soccer

NORMAN – Senior Kaylee Dao was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week after leading the conference in goals scored over the weekend, the conference announced Tuesday. This is her second career honor after being named freshman of the week in 2015.

Dao had an incredible weekend, notching four goals for a total of eight points. The senior was the difference maker against Oklahoma State on Aug. 29, netting a pair of goals in the second half with the Sooners down 2-0. Dao converted a penalty kick in the 75th minute to cut the lead in half before finding the equalizer in the 87th minute.

On Sunday, Dao notched a pair of goals, including the game-winner in overtime. With the Sooners trailing 2-1, Dao found the back of the net in the 74th minute to help OU force overtime. In the 98th minute, the senior notched her second game-winning goal of the season to give OU the 3-2 victory over Tulsa.

On the weekend, Dao tallied 16 shots with 12 on goal. In Thursday's game against OSU, she recorded eight shots, just one shy of OSU's total of nine.

Dao now has 21 career goals, ranking fifth all-time in OU program history. Her seven game-winning goals ranks fourth all-time. With five goals in 2019, Dao is just one shy of tying her career high for goals in a season.

Dao is the second Sooner to earn a Big 12 weekly honor in 2019, joining junior Nikki Panas who was named defensive player of the week after week one.

TCU's Emily Alvarado and Gracie Brian were named the Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively.

The Sooners are back in action Friday, Sept. 6, against Arizona. The teams will kick off at 9 p.m. CT in Tucson, Ariz.
