Soccer Road Swing Wraps Up in Nebraska

September 12, 2019 | Soccer

NORMAN --Ā The Oklahoma soccer team will wrap up a span of five-straight road games with a weekend in Nebraska. The Sooners will face Nebraska on Friday at 7:05 p.m. CT and Creighton on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. Ā

GAMEDAY STORYLINES

ROAD TRIP
This weekend's contests will mark the fourth and final matches of a five-match road trip for the Sooners. Last weekend, OU dropped a match against Arizona before defeating Arizona State to improve to 3-1-0 in matches away from Norman this season. The Sooners have yet to play two consecutive games at home and the longest stretch at home will be three games to start the month of October.

THE WEEKEND RECAP
The Sooners went 1-1-0 on the weekend as they suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Arizona State on Sept. 6. OU was held off the scoreboard for the first time in 2019 as they were outshot 15-3 on the night. The Sooners rebounded two days later, taking down Arizona State, 2-1, in Tempe. Kaylee Dao converted her second penalty kick attempt of the season to give OU a 1-0 lead and Ivanna Rivas broke a 1-1 tie in the 83rd minute with her first goal of the season to lead OU to victory. Sophomore keeper Megan McClay was outstanding in goal, setting a career high with five saves on the night.

SUNDAYS ARE FOR THE SOONERS
The Sooners have started every week this season with a win, going 3-0-0 on Sundays through the first three weeks of play. OU has won two overtime games on Sundays with wins at Arkansas (Aug. 25) and Tulsa (Sept. 1) and defeated Arizona in regulation, 2-1, on Sept. 8. Dao has scored at least one goal in all three Sunday games, including two game winners. McClay is 2-0-0 on Sundays in goal in this season. Ā

WEEKENDS ARE FOR ROAD WARRIORS
With four away games under their belts, the Sooners have proven they can get the job done away from John Crain Field. During opening weekend, OU defeated Arkansas, 1-0, in double overtime thanks to a golden goal from senior Kaylee Dao. The win snapped the Razorbacks' 11-game undefeated streak at home. In week two, Dao was once again clutch on the road as she had yet another golden goal to defeat Tulsa, 3-2. Though OU suffered its first road loss at Arizona on Sept. 6, the team rebounded on Sept. 8 to defeat Arizona State, 2-1. The Sooners three road victories this season matches their total wins away from home in 2018.

IN THE RECORD BOOKS
Kaylee Dao has broken her way into the OU record books this season. With six goals on the year, the Tulsa, Okla., native has brought her career total to 22 to rank fourth-all time. Dao is also ranked fourth in program history with eight game-winning goals in her career.

COMEBACK KIDS
Twice this season, the Sooners have had to overcome a deficit and have done so incredibly. When Oklahoma State came to town on Aug. 29, OU found itself in a 2-0 hole with just 15 minutes left in regulation. Kaylee Dao stepped up with a penalty kick conversion in the 75th minute and an equalizer in the 87th minute to lead OU to a comeback draw. Just three days later and with OU down, 2-1, Dao once again found the equalizer and the game-winner as OU secured the 3-2 comeback victory over Tulsa.

ON THE HORIZON
With just four games left in non-conference play, the start of Big 12 play is looming in the distance. The Sooners will open league play on the road at TCU on Sept. 26 and Texas Tech on Sept. 29. The Big 12 home opener will be against Kansas State on Oct. 3.
