OU Announces Rebranded Pregame Fan Fest

August 28, 2019 | Football, Athletics

NORMAN — The new football season is bringing about a revamped pregame fan festival for each 2019 home contest on the University of Oklahoma campus. The OU Athletics department announced details Wednesday for the "Party at the Palace, Presented by Allstate" event that will be held on the lawn immediately north of Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
Ā
Party at the Palace, which will begin three-and-a-half hours prior to kickoff each week, takes the place of the former Sooner Fan Fest that was held in the Rhyne Hall parking lot east of McCasland Field House. The rebranded event will include many of the same fan-friendly activities and great food options the previous iteration did, but will also include new elements.
Ā
Fans will have the opportunity to meet Boomer and Sooner, and have their photos taken with the Sooner Schooner, the mascots and members of the OU spirit squads. The GoVision jumbotron, which shows other games across the country is back for 2019, as are the photo booth, face painter, balloon artists and inflatable football toss.
Ā
Food will be available from trucks representing Midway Deli, The Meating Place and Whole Latte Pie.
Ā
Additionally, the Sooner Radio Network (flagship 107.7 The Franchise) will originate the start of its pregame show live from Party at the Palace beginning two hours prior to kickoff. Crew members Toby Rowland, Merv Johnson, Teddy Lehman, Chris Plank, Gabe Ikard and Rufus Alexander will be on hand.
Ā
The first Party at the Palace fan festival will begin this Sunday at 3 p.m. and will conclude at 6. The OU-Houston season opener will kick off at 6:30.
Ā
A special free music and food event will also be held this Saturday. "Kickoff on the Corner" is scheduled for 11 a.m. to midnight at the intersection of Boyd St. and Asp Ave. on Campus Corner. Seven bands, including headliner The Nixons and local groups Banana Seat and Superfreak, will play throughout the day and night, and a pep rally will take place at 6 p.m. The family-friendly event will also include face painting, giveaways and T-shirt tosses.
