NORMAN — Oklahoma Athletics, Sooner Sports Properties and the Norman Campus Corner Association are excited to announce the inaugural "Kickoff on the Corner" music, food and entertainment event Saturday, Aug. 31 that will help launch the 2019 OU Football season.

From 11 a.m. to midnight the day before OU's season opener against Houston, seven bands, including headliner The Nixons and local groups Banana Seat and Superfreak, will play on a stage at the intersection of Boyd St. and Asp Ave. on the north end of OU's campus. An OU football pep rally featuring cheerleaders, mascots and special guests will take place in the early evening. The family-friendly event will also include face painting, giveaways, T-shirt tosses and food and drinks.

To accommodate set-up of the stage — which will look north on Asp Ave. — and the expected crowd, Boyd St. will be closed from University Ave. east to Deans Row Ave. beginning at 4 a.m. Saturday.
