OU to Host Mississippi State in Big 12/SEC Challenge

NORMAN – The Big 12 and Southeastern Conferences announced Thursday the matchups for the 2020 Big 12/SEC Challenge. Oklahoma will host Mississippi State on Saturday, Jan. 25.

For the fifth straight year, all games in the Challenge will be played in one day. ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise all contests of the seventh annual event matching every Big 12 squad with 10 members from the Southeastern Conference. Each league will host five games ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise the contests with ESPN's College GameDay originating from one of the sites.

OU will face Mississippi State for the fourth time in program history. The most recent meeting came in 1997 in Starkville when the Bulldogs edged the Sooners in overtime.

Oklahoma is 4-2 in the Big 12/SEC Challenge with previous wins over Vanderbilt, LSU, Missouri and Texas A&M. OU's four wins in the event tie for second most among Big 12 teams.

The Sooners are 11-9 against current SEC teams in the Lon Kruger era, including 9-5 against schools which were SEC members at the time of competition. Oklahoma went 3-0 against SEC opponents last season by defeating Florida, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss. The Sooners bested the Commodores and Rebels by a combined 54 points.

As a conference, the Big 12 is 35-25 (.583) in the Big 12/SEC Challenge after a 6-4 advantage in 2019. The Big 12 has a yearly Challenge record of 4-1-1 with wins in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019. The tie occurred in 2017 (in case of a tie, the trophy stays with the conference that won it the previous season).

Oklahoma will be hosting the Big 12/SEC Challenge for the second season in a row. The diversion from alternating between home and road matchups was made to accommodate the Big 12's new scheduling alliance with the BIG EAST, allowing each Big 12 school to play one home and one road game between the two conference challenges. The Sooners will play their BIG EAST matchup on the road against Creighton in December (date to be determined).
