Program-Record Six Sooners Earn Academic Honors

February 28, 2019 | Men's Basketball

NORMAN – A program-record six members of the Oklahoma men's basketball team were named to the 2019 Academic All-Big 12 First Team on Thursday. The Sooners' academic accomplishment marks just the second time in league history that a school has had six men's basketball players named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team (Nebraska in 2004).

Earning recognition for the Sooners are seniors Patrick Geha, Christian James, Jamuni McNeace and Rashard Odomes along with junior Matt Freeman and sophomore Brady Manek.

Freeman and McNeace have earned Academic All-Big 12 honors for three consecutive seasons.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
