NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's basketball team heads to Wichita on Saturday for a meeting with the Shockers. The game will tip at 2 p.m. CT on ESPN3.
The contest will air on KREF 99.3 FM/1400 AM in Norman and KOKC 1520 AM in Oklahoma City (Tune In Radio App) with Ed Murray on the call. The game will air on ESPN3 and will be available for streaming via YurView.com/Kansas.
• OU heads north Saturday for just its second road game of the season. The contest with Wichita State will mark the 20th meeting between the two programs all-time. The Sooners own the all-time series with the Shockers 13-6 and is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings. The teams have not met since Nov. 10, 2013, when the Sooners topped the Shockers 89-70 in Norman.
• In their last outing, the Sooners handed Abilene Christian its first loss of the season with a 78-65 win in Norman. The Sooners shot 46.6% from the field and 52.2% from deep as Taylor Robertson knocked down a season-high seven 3-pointers to lead the offense. Robertson tallied 21 points while freshman Gabby Gregory had 18 and Madi Williams notched her third double-double of the year with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
• Robertson leads the nation from beyond the arc with 30 made 3-pointers this season; she has made more 3s than 139 teams in Division I basketball and is shooting 52.6% from deep (30-for-57). The sophomore is first in 3s per game (5.0).
• Freshman Gregory burst on to the scene Tuesday night as she put away a career-high 18 points on 5-for-6 shooting and went 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. The Tulsa, Okla., native was also perfect from the charity stripe, going 6-for-6. Gregory has missed just one freethrow this year, going 13-for-14 (.929).
• Three Sooners are averaging points in double figures through four games. Ana Llanusa is averaging 19.2 points per game; Robertson accounts for 18.0; Williams averages 14.2; Llanusa and Robertson have scored in double figures in five of OU's six contests this season, while Williams has done so in four.
In their last outing, the Sooners handed Abilene Christian its first loss of the season on Nov. 26 as OU topped the Wildcats 78-65 inside Lloyd Noble Center. The Sooners shot 46.6% from the field and 52.2% from deep.
Gregory had a career night, recording 18 points on 5-for-6 shooting and went 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. The Tulsa, Okla., native was also perfect from the charity stripe, going 6-for-6. Taylor Robertson led the Sooners' scoring with 21 points. The McPherson, Kansas, product drained seven of 12 shots from deep and was just one 3-pointer short of her career high.
Madi Williams recorded her third double-double of the season as she totaled 17 points to go with 11 rebounds. Williams shot 6-for-13 from the field and hit a pair of treys on the night. Sophomore Nydia Lampkin didn't miss a shot on the night, tallying eight points on four-for-four shooting.
Sophomore Robertson picked up right where she left off last season, shooting 54.0% (30-for-57) 12th nationally in 3-pointers made. The McPherson, Kan., product finished second in the country with 3.50 3-pointers per game. She was first among Division I freshmen in 3-point field goal percentage (.476) and finished the year ranked fifth overall.
Robertson leads the nation in made 3-pointers with 30 this season, sitting two treys ahead of Boise State's Riley Lupfer and New Mexico's Ahlise Hurst, who have hit 28. Robertson has made more threes than 139 teams in Division I basketball, and with 57 attempts, has put up more shots than 157 DI teams.
Robertson is also the national leader in 3s per game (5.0). The sophomore drained seven against Abilene Christian (Nov. 26) for a season high. Robertson was just one trey short of matching her career best of eight, set last season against Western Kentucky (Nov. 9, 2018).
Junior guard Llanusa is averaging 19.2 points per game to lead the Sooners. Llanusa ranks first in the Big 12 Conference in total points (115) and third in points per game. A Preseason All-Big 12 selection, Llanusa was the first Big 12 player to have a 30-point performance this season after dropping 30 against Missouri State (Nov. 14) and is one of just two players to do so thus far. Llanusa is tied for 22nd nationally in points per game (19.2) as one of 12 Power Five players in the top 50.
Additionally, Llanusa has 19 steals this season, good for the most by a Big 12 player. She ranks second in the league in steals per game, averaging 3.17. Llanusa tallied a career-high eight steals against UAB (Nov. 10), which tie for the seventh-most in a single game in Division I basketball this season. That figure is also the second most by a Power Five player in a single game.
Sophomore guard/forward Williams is averaging 11.0 rebounds per game to lead the Sooners. Her 66 rebounds on the season are more than double the next closest player (Llanusa has 32). Williams has had double-digit rebounds in four of OU's six contests this season with 11 in the Sooners' last contest with Abilene Christian (Nov. 26). Williams had 13 each against Prairie View A&M (Nov. 8) and UAB (Nov. 10) and 16 against SFA (Nov. 20) to match her career high.The Fort Worth, Texas product is tied for 22nd nationally in rebounds per game (11.0).
Additionally, Williams recorded back-to-back double-doubles against Prairie View A&M (14 pts/13 reb) and UAB (24 pts/13 reb). Williams was OU's last player to record consecutive double-doubles as she achieved the feat last season. Williams logged 20 points and 10 rebounds at SMU (Dec. 22, 2018) and posted 10 points and 11 rebounds against Texas Tech at home (Jan. 2, 2019). Williams' most recent double-double - good for her third this season - was against Abilene Christian (Nov. 26) when she tallied 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Wichita State enters Saturday's contest at 3-2 on the year. The Shockers ride a three-game winning streak after starting the season 0-2. In their last outing, the Shockers defeated Houston Baptist 59-42 at home. WSU tallied 50 rebounds set a season high, behind a career-high 17 from Shyia Smith. Smith recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 17 rebounds, while DJ McCarty notched her second straight game with 10 or more points and third of the season with a team-high 12.
Wichita State enters the 2019-20 campaign with an all-time record of 599-685, needing just one win to reach 600.
OU leads the all-time series with the Shockers 13-6 and is 8-2 in the last 10 contests. The teams last met on Nov. 10, 2013 with the Sooners prevailing 89-70 in Norman. Sharane Campbell scored 24 to lead the Sooners, while Morgan Hook (15), Aaryn Ellenberg (14) and Nicole Griffin (14) rounded out the top scorers for OU.
OU is on the road again on Dec. 4 to face Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+. The Sooners return to Lloyd Noble Center Dec. 7 to host LSU in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
