LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Oklahoma volleyball team picked up its second sweep in Big 12 play as they downed Kansas Saturday afternoon inside Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena in Lawrence, Kan.
OU (15-6, 7-3 Big 12) ousted the Jayhawks (6-13, 2-7 Big 12) 26-24, 25-19, 25-20 to earn the season sweep as the Sooners previously defeated Kansas in a four-set match on Oct. 5 in Norman. This is the first time since 2011 that the Sooners have taken both matches from the Jayhawks.
The Sooners put on a show, swinging .255 with 45 kills in the contest. Ashlynn Dunbar led the team with 13, while Paige Anderson and Sarah Maras each chipped in 10.
Setter Kylee McLaughlin picked up a double-double, dishing out 37 assists while adding 10 digs.
The Sooners' defense held Kansas to .076, the second-lowest opponent hitting percentage this season. Oklahoma narrowly out-blocked Kansas, 12.0-11.0 as the teams each registered 43 digs. Keyton Kinley had a team-and match-high 12 digs on the day.
OU trailed 18-9 in the first set, before storming back to take it, 26-24. OU ended the set on an eight-point run and Anderson finished things off with a kill to give the Sooners the early advantage.
The second set was all Oklahoma as the Sooners carried over the momentum from the first set to win 25-19. OU never trailed in the second set as Maras and Brianna Kadiku combined for the block at match point to set up the win.
A back-and-forth third set saw ties all the way up to 15-15, before a Dunbar service ace would give OU the edge. Maras brought up match point with her 10th kill of the match. Kadiku and Sanders came up with a huge block to seal the match for the Sooners.
OU will be back in action, hosting No. 1 Texas on Friday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m. CT inside McCasland Field House.
