Sooners Fall in Four to No. 1 Longhorns

November 08, 2019 | Volleyball

NORMAN – The Oklahoma volleyball team dropped a four-set match to the top-ranked Texas Longhorns Friday night inside McCasland Field House, 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 25-13. The Sooners hosted the second-largest crowd in program history with 2,442 fans in attendance.

"I can't thank the crowd enough," head coach Lindsey Gray-Walton said. "There was a lot going on here in Sooner Nation, whether it's women's basketball, coming in town for football tomorrow, they chose us. I hope they continue to choose us on a regular basis, because that environment in there is what is going to create a really hard place for opponents to play, but also a really special place for our players to play in. I can't thank them enough, and our team can't thank them enough."

The Sooners moved to 15-7 overall and 7-4 in conference play, while the Longhorns improved to 17-2 with an 11-0 mark against the conference.

OU narrowly trailed in kills, putting away 48 to Texas' 53. Ashlynn Dunbar had her 10th double-double of the season as she put away 19 kills to pace the OU attack, along with 11 digs. Sarah Sanders chipped in 12 kills on a .600 clip and Paige Anderson and Sanaa Dotson added six apiece.

Kylee McLaughlin earned her 11th double-double of the year with 40 assists and 10 digs.

Defensively, Keyton Kinley led the Sooners with 12 digs. OU had six blocks on the night with Sanders getting in on four of them.

Texas took the first and second sets by matching scores of 25-20. The Sooners would rally to claim the third set, 23-25. A kill from Sanders brought up match point and Dunbar put away the third set with a kill of her own. The third-set victory for the Sooners was the first set given up by Texas since Sept. 25. Texas would take the fourth set 25-13 to take the match.

The Sooners will host Texas Tech inside McCasland Field House Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. CT.
