GREENWOOD, Ind. – Senior Austin O'Brien (Owasso, Okla.) and sophomore Jake Irvin (Bloomington, Minn.) of the University of Oklahoma baseball team were both selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team as announced on Thursday. It is the first career selection for either student-athlete and the first for a Sooner baseball player since 2011.

O'Brien, a four-year starter at first base, owns a 3.52 cumulative grade-point average as a health and exercise science major. He is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team from 2015 and 2016. One of three Sooner captains, O'Brien is hitting .294 in his final season with five home runs and 26 RBI. He blasted his 15^th career home run last Sunday in a win at No. 25 West Virginia.

Irvin sports a 3.93 GPA as a management major at Oklahoma. This season marks his first year of eligibility for academic awards. A Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American a year ago, he has moved into the role of Friday night starter for the Sooners in just his second season. Irvin is 5-0 on the season with a 2.14 earned run average and a career record of 11-2 with 103 strikeouts in just 98.1 innings across two seasons.

The last Sooner to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District was Elliott Blair in 2011. He was also a CoSIDA Academic All-American that season. Oklahoma last had two players earn Academic All-District in the same year as Aaron Ivey and Ryan Rohlinger each claimed the honor in 2006.

Oklahoma is on the road this weekend for a three-game series at Kansas State beginning Friday at 6:35 p.m.
