Sooners to Wear Alternate Uniforms at PK80

November 16, 2017 | Men's Basketball

NORMAN - Oklahoma men's basketball and official OU Athletics apparel sponsor Nike unveiled a special alternate uniform that the Sooners will wear throughout PK80 next week.

PK80 is an early-season men's basketball tournament created to honor Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his 80th birthday, taking place in Portland, Ore., Nov. 23-26. Nike created unique uniforms for all 16 schools participating in the event.

Oklahoma's PK80 uniform features a crimson top in Nike's "Rio" design, a cut originally created for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. The sides of the jersey include a wood grain design, an element inspired by the rugged wood and iron of the Sooner Schooner and originally featured on Oklahoma football's “roughrider” uniforms.

The top also incorporates a black Nike swoosh ? a feature on many of the PK80 uniforms in tribute to Knight's favorite color.

The Sooners' crimson shorts also contain the wood grain pattern, black swoosh and a white OU logo. The front buckle of the shorts bare the image of a white wagon wheel.

The team will wear crimson socks and be outfitted with all-black colorways of four different Nike shoes inspired by Knight's signature style. Known for his all-black outfits and sunglasses, Knight's look is translated through all-black makeups of the Kyrie 3, PG1, Kobe AD and KD10, which feature iridescent highlights in an ode to his shining shades.

The Sooners open tournament play against Arkansas on Thursday, Nov. 23 (Thanksgiving Day) at Moda Center on ESPN2. Oklahoma will face either defending NCAA champion North Carolina or Portland in the second round on Friday, Nov. 24, and play Connecticut, DePaul, Oregon or Michigan State in the final game on Sunday, Nov. 26.
