DENTON, Texas — The Oklahoma soccer team started its 2016 campaign with a 3-0 win over North Texas in a road exhibition contest Friday night inside the Mean Green Soccer Complex.
The Sooners struck first when senior Liz Keester headed in a cross from classmate Shiloh Price in the 31st minute. Then, just 1:15 into the second half, redshirt freshman Kyle Escobedo added a goal of her own, making the OU lead 2-0.
Senior Madison Saliba stretched the OU advantage to 3-0 in the 67th minute after sending a high shot over UNT goalkeeper Brooke Bradley into the net.
Throughout the match, the Sooners were aggressive on offense, outshooting the Mean Green, who were picked to repeat as C-USA champions, by a 20-7 clip. Saliba led OU with five shots, while Price and Keester both recorded three. Freshman Kristina O'Donnell and Escobedo added a pair of shots each.
In a full game in goal, OU redshirt senior Kassidie Stade tallied a shutout and snagged four saves. For UNT, Bradley recorded six saves and allowed three goals in 90 minutes of action.
Next weekend, OU kicks off the regular season at home with the Nike Sooner Classic, facing No. 24 South Carolina at 7 p.m. on Aug. 19 and No. 25 Loyola Marymount at 3 p.m. on Aug. 21.
