Oklahoma players have won 72 major national awards, including five Heisman Trophies. Each year, several OU players are placed on watch lists for these awards. Here are the players that are on these lists for 2016 (updated 8/29):
The Rimington Trophy, named in honor of Dave Rimington, has been given to the most outstanding center in NCAA FBS football since 2000.
The Outland Trophy is awarded to the best United States college football interior lineman by the Football Writers Association of America. It is named after John H. Outland. One of only a few players ever to be named All-America at two positions, Outland garnered consensus All-America honors in 1898 at tackle and consensus All-America honors at halfback in 1899.
The Rotary Lombardi Award has been presented since 1970. Due to a change in its criteria in 2016, the Rotary Lombardi Award is open to college football players regardless of position, who "demonstrate outstanding performance and skill in offensive or defensive positions and best exemplify the discipline, virtue and wisdom that defined Vincent Lombardi's exceptional brand of leadership." The award, given to the nation's top player, is named in honor of former Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi.

The Bednarik Award has been presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1995. Chuck Bednarik, former standout at Penn and with the Philadelphia Eagles, is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame's Class of '69 and the NFL Hall of Fame's Class of 1967.
Instituted in 1985, the Butkus Award is given to the top linebacker at the high school, collegiate and professional levels. The awards is named in honor of Dick Butkus, who is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.
The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell, has been given to America's College Football Player of the Year since 1937.
The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. The Davey O'Brien Award honors candidates who exemplify Davey O'Brien's enduring character while exhibiting teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership in both academics and athletics.
The Walter Camp Trophy is awarded to the outstanding player of the year who has exemplified the qualities of self-discipline, unselfish team play, desire to excel, mature judgement and respect for leadership. He must be a dedicated competitor who has made effective use of his athletic talent to enhance the great American game of college football.

The award was established to compliment the Heisman Trophy Award which never been presented to a defensive player.

The Wuerffel Trophy, known as “College Football's Premier Award for Community Service,” is presented annually by the All Sports Association in Fort Walton Beach Florida. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
The award, which is given annually to the nation's top running back, is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. It is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.

The Groza Award has been given annually to the nation's top collegiate place-kicker since 1992. The Award is named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou “The Toe” Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954.
The Ray Guy Award is presented annually to the nation's top college punter. The Augusta Sports Council created the award in 2000 to honor Guy, a Thomson, Ga., native and College Football Hall of Fame inductee.

The Biletnikoff Award is presented annually by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation to the outstanding receiver in college football. Any player, regardless of position (tight end, slot receiver and back, inside receiver, wide receiver, split end and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. Biletnikoff, a member of the pro and college football halls of fame, was MVP of Super Bowl XI for the Oakland Raiders.
