AMES, Iowa – No. 9/8 Oklahoma (39-7, 10-1 Big 12) extended its winning streak to 14 games as it rallied past and then held off Iowa State (19-27, 1-9) in game one of a doubleheader, 4-2, Friday afternoon at the Cyclone Sports Complex.

The Sooners trailed 2-1 after four innings before taking the lead back in the top of the fifth. OU then held off a late scoring chance in the bottom of the sixth as it recorded its 25th straight win in the series.

The 25-game win streak over ISU is the third longest active streak against another team for the Sooners, trailing only a 32-game run over Wichita State and a 28-game streak versus North Texas. In fact, over the last 19 contests Oklahoma has held Iowa State to two runs or less.

In addition to 14 straight wins overall, OU has also won 21 of its past 22 contests. The 14-game win streak is the Sooners' longest since winning also winning 14 from Feb. 21 to March 17 of last season.

For head coach Patty Gasso, it was her 1,067th win at the Division I level. That breaks a tie for 15th place in NCAA history with former South Carolina coach Joyce Compton.

Sophomore Paige Parker earned the win and she now has a victory in 14 straight decisions. She struck out eight with just one walk and gave up two runs on five hits.

To get the scoring started, three Oklahoma freshman generated a two-out rally to get OU on the board.

Freshman Shay Knighten drew a four-pitch walk with two outs, while fellow freshman Caleigh Clifton extended her on-base streak to 20 games with a walk of her own. Freshman Fale Aviu then delivered an RBI single to shallow left field, plating Knighten. Aviu fell behind 0-2 but fouled off a pair of pitches before delivering the RBI.

After two scoreless innings, Iowa State briefly took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Aly Cappaert hit a two-run home run to center field. It was the latest in a game the Cyclones had a lead over the Sooners since they were up 7-6 after five innings on March 21, 2009, but it would not last long thanks to another two-out effort.

Clifton got things started when she was hit by a pitch with two out. Aviu collected her second hit when she sent a single into left field. Clifton reached third on the play, while Aviu stole second as sophomore Nicole Pendley batted.

Aviu's fourth stolen base of the season paid off in a huge way when Pendley delivered a single through the right side. Clifton scored easily to tie the game, while Aviu dove in around the tag on a play at the plate to put the Sooners on top.

Iowa State threatened to tie the game or take the lead in the bottom of the sixth, but Parker held strong.

Iowa State had two runners on with one out, but a passed ball enabled them to move up into scoring position. With the tying run on third and go-ahead run on second, Kelsey McFarland came to bat for the Cyclones. Behind in the count 2-0, Parker evened it up at 2-2 before a ball made it a full count. She then got McFarland swinging for the second out.

The Cyclones' last chance down to Nychole Antillon, but Parker put her away on four pitches to keep the lead at 3-2 for the Sooners.

OU added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.

Knighten and Clifton recorded back-to-back singles, but a double play quickly brought two outs. An error on second baseman Brittany Gomez allowed Pendley to reach safely and got Knighten to third. That proved costly as a wild pitch brought Knighten home with OU's fourth run.
