TULSA, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma baseball team had its six-game win streak snapped with a 5-0 loss against Oral Roberts at J.L. Johnson Stadium on Tuesday night. The Sooners dropped to 11-10-1, while the Golden Eagles improved to 11-9.

Oklahoma pitchers kept Oral Robert hitless through the first four innings. Right fielder Noah Cummings doubled to start the bottom of the fifth, but freshman right-hander Connor Berry (Sugar Land, Texas) got out of the inning unscathed by leaving two runners aboard.

Senior lefty Shawn Hunter (Fort Supply, Okla.) entered to pitch for the Sooners in the bottom of the sixth and ran into trouble immediately. Second baseman Nick Roark singled and catcher Matt Whatley followed with a stand up, RBI-triple to right-center that broke a scoreless-tie. Hunter was lifted with runners at the corners and nobody out. The Golden Eagles added a run on a hit-and-run single off the bat of first baseman Brent Williams before plating two more on a sacrifice-bunt groundball was thrown into left by freshman right-hander Austin Hansen (Lenexa, Kan.).

Junior right-hander JB Olson (Shady Shores, Texas) got Oklahoma out of the sixth as he collected all three outs and left runners on the corners. In the bottom of the seventh, freshman right-hander Ryan Madden (Westminster, Colo.) got a 6-4-3 groundball-double play with runners on the corners to escape a jam and keep the Sooners close headed to the eighth.

Oklahoma would attempt to rally in each of the next two innings, but each time with two outs. Junior designated hitter Austin O'Brien (Owasso, Okla.) and freshman pinch-hitter Chris Andritsos (The Woodlands, Texas) reached with back-to-back singles in the seventh and junior shortstop Sheldon Neuse (Fort Worth, Texas) doubled in the eighth. Neuse finished the night 2-for-4.

OU got two runners aboard in the top of the ninth. Senior right fielder Alex Wise (Neosho, Mo.) extended his hit streak to 11 games with a one-out single and freshman center fielder Steele Walker (Prosper, Texas) followed with his second hit of the night before right-hander Brady Womacks got two called strike threes to end the night.

Hunter (1-2) took the loss without recording an out. He surrendered three runs on two hits and a hit-by-pitch. The win went to ORU right-hander Cale Tims (2-0). He worked 6.2-scoreless innings before being lifted after O'Brien singled. Tims allowed just four hits and two walks and added four strikeouts.

Whatley led the Golden Eagles' offense with a 2-for-4 night that included a double, triple and walk.

The Sooners open Big 12 play this weekend when they visit Texas Tech. First pitch on game one is scheduled for 6:30 pm on Thursday, March 24 from Lubbock.
