NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team swept Texas Tech at McCasland Field House on Saturday night. The win was the second sweep for the Sooners, who improved to 14-12 overall and 5-8 in the Big 12, this season. The Red Raiders dropped to 10-18 overall and 0-13 in conference play.
The first set featured 17 ties and nine lead changes before OU ultimately claimed it by a score of 27-25. The Sooners had trailed 22-20 before a 3-0 run put them in front, including a service ace from junior defensive specialist Emma Kelly (Houston, Texas) that tied the score. Senior middle blocker Micaela Spann (Carrollton, Texas) hit .556 in the set with five kills on nine attempts without an error.
Oklahoma won each of the next two sets with a little more comfort and scores of 25-18 and 25-19. The Sooners hits a collective .419 in the second set, including six kills from both junior middle blocker Marion Hazelwood (Beach City, Texas) and sophomore outside hitter Alyssa Enneking (League City, Texas). In the third, OU led 10-6 and had to withstand an 8-3 Tech run that put the Red Raiders in front, 14-13. The Sooners then finished the night on a 12-5 run, which included three kills by sophomore outside hitter Madison Drescher (Southlake, Texas).
Enneking led the Sooners with 12 kills on a .321 hitting percentage. She tacked on 11 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Texas Tech's Lauren Douglass matched Enneking for the match-high in kills on the night with 12 kills and six blocks.
Hazelwood and Drescher were tied for second on Oklahoma with 10 kills. Hazelwood hit .273 with a match-leading nine blocks, including three solos. Sophomore setter Audrey Alford (Norman, Okla.) collected 40 assists, six digs and two kills.
For the Red Raiders, Marguerite Grubb dished out 31 assists and Reyn Akiu picked up 15 digs.
The Sooners hit the road for a match at Kansas State on Wednesday, November 16 at 7 p.m. They then return to Norman for the home finale on Saturday, November 19 against Baylor.
