LUBBOCK, Texas — The No. 24 Oklahoma soccer team fell at Texas Tech by a score of 1-0 in a double overtime contest on Friday night at the John Walker Soccer Complex as the Red Raiders scored the match's lone goal in the 104th minute.
The Sooners (12-5-2 overall, 4-3-1 Big 12) were outshot by a 16-10 clip by the Red Raiders (9-7-2 overall, 2-6-0 Big 12), including a 4-2 mark in shots on goal. Senior midfielder Shiloh Price led OU with four shots, while senior midfielder/forward Madison Saliba and junior midfielder Tori Bowman both added two.
With neither team finding the back of the net in regulation, the match entered extra time and eventually a second overtime before Texas Tech freshman forward Jade King tallied her sixth score of the season with 103:11 on the clock to give the Red Raiders the win.
The match was OU's fifth overtime contest of the season, and the Sooners now hold a 2-1-2 record in such games.
"We didn't feel like we ever found a rhythm or played and created in the manner we have been doing," fifth-year OU head coach Matt Potter said. "Partly us but also credit to Tech. They were playing for their lives, on Senior Night, needing a win to get into the Big 12 Championship, and they found a way. We still had chances that we have shown we can finish, and it took double OT to separate the teams."
OU redshirt senior goalkeeper Kassidie Stade grabbed three saves in the contest, while Texas Tech senior Lauren Watson added two saves in the shutout.
The Sooners finished the Big 12 regular season in a tie with Baylor for third place, matching their best-ever conference showing (2010). They will be the No. 4 seed at next week's Big 12 Championship as Bears hold the tiebreaker for the No. 3 seed.
"We will regroup to be ready Wednesday, and although we leave disappointed, we will turn out attention to being ready for Iowa State," Potter said. "That's life in the Big 12!"
The conference tournament will be held Nov. 2-6 at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Mo. OU will play No. 5 seed Iowa State at 2 p.m. CT on Wednesday. Tickets are now available for purchase by clicking here. This season, the Sooners are celebrating 20 years of their program, which began in 1996.
