Kevin Henry Named MBB Color Analyst

October 28, 2016 | Men's Basketball

NORMAN - The University of Oklahoma announced today the addition of Kevin Henry to its men's basketball radio broadcasts. Henry will join Toby Rowland on all Sooner radio broadcasts as color analyst.

Henry comes to the Sooner airwaves full time after filling in as an occasional color analyst on Sooner Sports TV in 2015-16.

"I'm really excited to join the Sooner radio team," said Henry. "It's an honor to be a part of the Oklahoma basketball tradition and call games alongside Toby Rowland. This team has a lot of exciting young players and I'm eager to watch them improve as the season progresses."

Henry's experience boasts a unique combination of basketball and community engagement. A former Big 12 basketball player, Henry played collegiately at the University of New Mexico (1997-2000) before transferring to Baylor University (2000-02). While at New Mexico, Henry sunk 102 3-pointers in the 1998-99 season – a UNM single-season record. In 124 career games at the two schools, he totaled 986 points and averaged 8.0 per contest.

When he's not on the air, Henry serves the OU athletics staff as director of community relations, overseeing all community and volunteer aspects across the athletics department. Since Henry joined the OU athletics staff in the fall of 2015, he has coordinated all the volunteer programing for approximately 600 student-athletes and 120 spirit members.

Prior to his time at OU, Henry was the athletic director and boys basketball coach at Methodist Children's Home in Waco, Texas. In seven years as head coach, he guided the team to seven state final fours and three state championship games in the Texas Christian Athletic League. He was twice named coach of the year.

Henry holds an undergraduate degree from New Mexico and a master's in sports management from Baylor. His wife, Dr. Aiyana Henry, serves as an assistant professor and elementary education program coordinator for OU's Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education. The two are parents to Emma (11) and Nash (8).

“I think Sooner fans are going to love Kevin,” said Rowland, entering his sixth season as the voice of the Sooners. “His knowledge, playing experience and positive personality are a perfect combination for our broadcast team. This is going to be a fun season.”

The Sooner Sports Radio Network blankets the state of Oklahoma and also delivers Sooner games to fans and alumni in neighboring states. The flagship stations for the network are 50,000-watt KOKC AM 1520 and KRXO 107.7 FM in Oklahoma City. In Tulsa, the Sooner Sports Radio Network broadcasts may be heard on 100,000-watt KMOD FM 97.5 and KTBZ AM 1430.

Beginning with the 2016-17 season, live streaming of OU radio broadcasts and on-demand audio will also be available for free through TuneIn, the world's largest audio network. The new streaming agreement provides fans access to a dedicated Sooner Network channel to find game action and related programming.

Henry will make his Sooner radio debut on Nov. 8 when Oklahoma hosts Washburn for an exhibition contest at the Lloyd Noble Center.
