NORMAN — Two members of the No. 24 Oklahoma soccer team, senior forward Liz Keester and junior defender Madeline Brem, were among the 11 players named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Seven Team, the organization announced on Thursday.
Brem, who hails from Flower Mound, Texas, holds a 3.92 GPA in finance. Keester, a Tulsa, Okla., native, is a health and exercise science major with a 3.80 GPA. Last year, Brem received All-District Second Team accolades, while this is the first recognition for Keester.
The Academic All-District teams include student-athletes who are divided into eight geographical districts across the U.S. and Canada. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected next month.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA at her current institution, must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position and is only eligible until she has completed one full calendar year at her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
The Sooners return to the field at 7 p.m. CT on Friday in Lubbock, Texas, as they face Texas Tech in their regular season finale.
