NORMAN — The Oklahoma soccer team looked dominant as it opened its 2015 home slate with a 4-0 victory over Little Rock on Sunday at John Crain Field to cap off an undefeated weekend of play.
Scoring for the Sooners (2-2-0) in the contest were sophomore midfielder Rasha Roberts, junior defender Rachel Ressler, junior forward Liz Keester and senior defender Laura Rayfield.
The Sooners capitalized on Little Rock's goalkeeping mistakes for their first three goals. OU got on the board with Roberts' goal from the top of the box in the 28th minute. On the rocket of a shot, the ball went between Little Rock (2-2-0) senior goalkeeper Sara Small's legs and into the net.
In the 50th minute, Ressler tapped in the score off a deflected save after Small came out to make a play on the ball but could not quite control it.
Keester's goal came in the 75th minute and extended the OU advantage to 3-0. The goal was the second of the season for Keester, who is in her first season at OU after transferring from Texas A&M.
After Little Rock fouled junior forward Caren Nelson inside the 18-yard box, Rayfield lined up for the penalty kick, which she converted in the 83rd minute to put her name on the scoresheet.
OU controlled the pace of the game the entire 90 minutes, putting up 29 shots while allowing just two. The 29 shots were the most for a Matt Potter-coached Sooner squad.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlyn Fahrner, who made her season debut for the Sooners, earned the shutout in goal and collected one save. Little Rock's Small had three saves and two goals allowed in 55:17 of action, before making way for junior Sara Cavanaugh who finished out the match with four saves.
"Today was important to give those that support us something to cheer about with it being the first home game and coming off of Friday's result (winning over Oklahoma State)," Potter said. "I was pleased with the way we dictated play and controlled the game against an organized team. We had to be diligent and aware of their attacking threats as we went forward as they are dangerous on the counter. It is pleasing to see a clean sheet for the second game in a row, and obviously to get multiple goals from different players in different ways speaks to the talent we are blessed to have."
The Sooners return to John Crain Field for a pair of games next weekend. OU will face Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. CT on Friday, Sept. 4, while UTSA comes to Norman at 12:30 p.m. CT on Sunday, Sept. 6.
