NORMAN – One would have to forgive the Oklahoma softball team for feeling a sense of déjà vu Saturday afternoon.

Nearly one year to the date of the Sooners' three-run comeback against Texas A&M in the 2014 NCAA Norman Regional, Oklahoma did it again Saturday afternoon, stunning the Aggies with a three-run seventh inning to reach the 2015 Regional Championship game with a 7-5 win.

“What a game; I think anybody who is tuning in or who is here really got treated with something special by both teams' fight,” Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso said. “A&M really impressed with their approach. It was aggressive and their offense got some big, timely hits and their momentum was unfolding. It was a tough one.

“The beauty of this group is that they've been in these situations before and knowing that as long as they have one strike left we're still in the game.”

Oklahoma trailed 5-4 entering the bottom of the seventh, but No. 9 hitter Nicole Pendley started the inning with a walk in the team's first at-bat against relief pitcher Katie Marks. Two batters later, Shelby Pendley singled to center field and Aggies center fielder Erica Russell attempted to throw out Nicole Pendley at third base, but the ball went into the OU dugout to grant Nicole Pendley home plate with the tying run.

After a strikeout, junior Erin Miller stepped to the plate with Shelby Pendley on second base. On an 0-1 pitch, Miller turned on the ball and hooked it just inside the right field foul pole to give OU the walkoff win. It was her eighth home run of the year.

“I think I just focused on relaxing,” Miller said of her at-bat. “I think a lot of players in that situation can get hyped up and tense, and I really just told myself to take a deep breath and do it for the team and do it for Paige (Parker) because she battled that entire game. I really wanted to finish that game for her, especially, so just take a deep breath and finish it.

“I knew it was gone, I was just hoping it would stay fair,” she added.

Miller's homer was the third of the day for OU, giving the Sooners a new single-season school and Big 12 record with 103 homers on the year. The seven runs scored also gives OU 477 on the season, setting a new conference and school single-season mark.

With the victory, Oklahoma advances to Sunday's Regional Championship game at 2:30 p.m. The Sooners' opponent is still to be determined.

Parker battled her way to the win, improving to 26-5 on the season. She allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts. All five runs were scored in the first three innings as Parker held the Aggies to no runs and just two hits over the final four innings.

“One of the biggest things we got out of this game is watching Paige Parker, in the middle of the game, turn herself around and decide she needs to compete and stop being afraid of what's coming,” Gasso said. “You could see things change a little for her and she really was able to shut things down a little bit at the end of the game and keep us in the game, which was important.”

Texas A&M didn't waste any time at the plate, scoring the game's opening run on the game's first pitch. Tori Vidales lifted freshman Paige Parker's first offering to left field for her team-leading 19th home run of the season.

Oklahoma had an answer, though, in the bottom of the inning.

Senior Lauren Chamberlain started the Sooners off with a single to center field. After a pair of quick outs, Miller walked on four pitches to keep the inning alive. Fellow junior Kady Self then delivered the game-tying hit with a single to left field, plating Chamberlain.

On Self's single, Texas A&M left fielder Brittany Clopton attempted to throw Chamberlain out at home, but her throw was errant, which enabled Miller to move to third and Self to take second. The error proved costly for the Aggies as OU senior Georgia Casey laced a singled to right field to score Miller and give Oklahoma the 2-1 lead.

The Aggies responded with three runs in the top of the second to retake the lead at 4-2.

With one out, Kristen Cuyos hit a solo home run to center field to knot the game up at 2-2. Later in the frame, Vidales struck again as she lined a two-run double to center field to drive home Erica Russell and Clopton.

Oklahoma cut into the lead in the bottom of the frame.

Chamberlain extended the all-time home run record with a solo shot to right-center. It was her 20th home run of the season and No. 92 of her career, cutting the Aggies' lead to 4-3 after two innings.

The Aggies continued to keep up the pressure as Breanna Dozier hit the team's third home run of the game with one out in the third, extending the lead to 5-3.

After two scoreless innings, Oklahoma cut the Aggies' lead in half in the sixth.

With one out and no one on, Casey turned on a 1-0 pitch and drove over the fence in left-center for her third home run of the season.
