NORMAN – The Oklahoma softball team is headed to the Super Regionals for the sixth straight season after shutting out Texas A&M, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Marita Hynes Field.

“A very intense and hard fought game,” Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso said. “I loved the way Paige (Parker) came out and fixed a few things and was the pitcher that she has been over the past few months. When we needed her the most we were there.

“With our offense, we had 10 hits today, but we weren't getting timely hits. Paige helped us stay in the game to get to that point. I think that the one big play was Kelsey Arnold on the diving catch on the line drive. It was really a spark to this team.”

Freshman Paige Parker got the job done in the circle, dominating the Aggies hitters. She gave up just three hits while striking out seven to improve her record to 27-5 on the season. One game after giving up a season-high five runs, she held Texas A&M (40-20) scoreless for her ninth shutout of the season.

“Just coming out and making some adjustments from yesterday,” Parker said when asked what adjustments she made from Saturday.

“Just attacking hitters and competing to get them out any way that I can. Also being more aggressive in the way that I face hitters. I wasn't pitching as aggressively as I had been. I just need to attack hitters and got after them more aggressively.”

The 11th-seeded Sooners (48-7) will now play at No. 6 Alabama in the Super Regional. The dates and times have not yet been announced. The Sooners' streak of six straight Supers is tied for the second-longest active streak in the country with Oregon. Only Alabama's run of 11 consecutive Supers is longer.

The Sooners, who have won 13 straight Regional games and 18 of its past 19 such games dating back to 2010, served as the visiting team and got the scoring started in the top of the first with a two-out rally.

Junior Erin Miller got things going with a four-pitch walk with two outs. Senior Georgia Casey then followed with a walk of her own on five pitches. That brought freshman Paige Parker to the plate and she helped her own cause with a sharp run-scoring single to center field, driving in Miller.

Parker didn't give up a hit until one out in the third, and Texas A&M didn't put runners in scoring position until the bottom of the fourth.

Breanna Dozier and Cali Lanphear drew back-to-back walks to start the frame before Ashley Walters sacrifice them into scoring position. Now face the tying run on third and go-ahead run on second, Parker got Kristen Cuyos to strike out swinging. The Aggies then brought on pinch hitter Reagan Boenker, but Parker got her to pop out to Shelby Pendley at shortstop to end the threat.

The bottom of the fifth ended with a defensive highlight as freshman Kelsey Arnold made a diving stop at third base on a screaming line drive off the bat of leadoff hitter Tori Vidales. One game after going 3-4 with a home run, double and three RBI, Vidales was held to an 0-4 day Sunday.

The Sooners manufactured an insurance in the sixth to give themselves a two-run cushion.

Junior Whitney Ellis hit a one-out single to right field before moving up to second on a groundout by senior pinch hitter Callie Parsons. Advancing the runner proved crucial as senior Lauren Chamberlain followed with a single to center field, easily scoring Ellis from second base.

Texas A&M had another chance to tie or take the lead in the sixth, loading the bases with one out.

April Ryan led off with a single to center and two batters later Lanphear added a bloop single beyond the first base bag. Ashley Walters was then hit by a pitch on a 2-0 count to fill the bases. Parker battled back though by getting Cuyos to fly out to shallow left field. Parker then fanned Boenker on three pitches to escape the jam.

Parker finished off the Aggies in the seventh, making sure there wouldn't be any late-inning heroics. She struck out pinch hitter Hailey Rebar looking on four pitches, then fielded a comebacker from No. 9 hitter Brittany Clopton. Facing Vidales one last time, Parker got her to hit a chopper to Pendley at short, ending the game.
