LAWRENCE, Kan. – Playing in its first extra-inning game of the season, No. 6/5 Oklahoma suffered a 4-2 setback in eight innings against Kansas Friday night at Arrocha Ballpark.

The loss drops the Sooners to 40-7 on the season and 12-2 in the Big 12 standings, while Kansas improves to 35-8 overall and 5-5 in league play. Oklahoma still has a 3.5 game lead in the conference title race over Baylor and Texas, while the Jayhawks are 5.0 games behind.

Kansas only mustered three hits off of OU starter Paige Parker, but two of those hits were two-run homers as OU's three-game winning streak in the series was snapped.

After two scoreless frames, Oklahoma opened the scoring in the third.

Freshman Lea Wodach led off with a walk, while fellow freshman Nicole Pendley drove a double to center field to put a pair into scoring position. Senior Lauren Chamberlain walked to fill the bases with no one out before senior Shelby Pendley lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to plate the game's opening run.

The Sooners then doubled their lead in the fifth with Pendley again driving in the run.

With one out, freshman Nicole Pendley drew a walk, and Chamberlain followed with her second walk of the contest. Shelby Pendley stepped to the plate and laced a single to center field to drive home her sister and make it a 2-0 lead for OU.

Parker had been cruising through the first four innings, holding the Jayhawks hitless for the first four and two-thirds innings, but she ran into trouble in the fifth.

After Jessie Roane walked to lead off the second, Parker proceeded to retire the next eight batters before Roane walked again in the fourth.

Moving to the fifth, Parker retired the first two batters she faced before No. 9 hitter Taylor McElhaney walked after a 10-pitch at-bat. Parker was up 0-2 in the count before falling even at 2-2. McElhaney then fouled off three pitches before drawing ball three. After two more fouls, McElhaey had earned the free pass.

With one aboard, leadoff hitter Chaley Brickey tied the game as she collected Kansas' first hit, a two-run homer off the scoreboard in left field.

The Sooners had an excellent chance to score in the seventh as Chamberlain led off the inning with a triple to right field. Shelby Pendley then walked to put runners on the corners, but a failed squeeze play, strike out and foul out kept the game even at 2-2.

Oklahoma had another chance in the eighth when junior Whitney Ellis doubled with two outs. A wild pitch moved her to third, but Chanin Naudin fielded a sharp grounder from Wodach to keep the game tied.

In the bottom of the eighth, Brickey led off with a double. After a strikeout, Daniella Chavez hit a walkoff, two-run homer to right center to hand the Sooners their first loss this year when scoring first. OU had been 34-0 when notching the game's first run entering the contest.

Parker dropped to 21-5 with the loss. She gave up four runs on three hits and five walks while striking out seven in a career-high 7.1 innings pitched.

The Sooners will look to even up the series Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
