LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 6/5 Oklahoma (41-7) responded in emphatic fashion to a series-opening loss by run-ruling Kansas (35-9) Saturday in five innings, 13-0.

After falling in extra innings, 4-2, Friday, the Sooners pounded out 10 hits and drew a season-high 13 walks to record their 21st run-rule win of the year. Three different Sooners had at least two hits and four drove in at least two runs as OU equaled the most runs they've ever scored against the Jayhawks.

Leading the way was junior Kady Self, who doubled twice and drove in three runs, and junior Erin Miller, who was 2-3 with two runs batted in and tied a career high with four runs scored.

In the circle, freshman Paige Parker and senior Shelby Pendley combined to throw Oklahoma's 16th shutout of the season. Parker held the Jayhawks hitless in her 3.0 innings of work. She struck out six and walked just one to improve her season record to 22-5 on the year.

After giving up a leadoff walk, Parker retired the next nine batters she faced, including four straight strikeouts.

In relief, Pendley struck out three and gave up just two hits over the final 2.0 innings in her 19th appearance in the circle.

Along with the win against the Jayhawks, the Sooners were aided by Texas Tech beating Texas and Iowa State splitting a doubleheader with Baylor Saturday. As a result, OU is 13-2 in the league and holds a 4.0 game lead over both the Longhorns (7-4) and the Lady Bears (7-4).

Meanwhile, Kansas dropped to 5-6 in league play and was eliminated from the Big 12 title race.

Squandered scoring opportunities hurt the Sooners Friday, but Oklahoma came through early and often Saturday.

In the first, seniors Lauren Chamberlain and Pendley each drew walks to start the game before Parker put down her second sacrifice bunt of the season to move them into scoring position. Junior Erin Miller then walked to fill the bases.

After leaving nine runners on base Friday night, junior Kady Self made sure to come through in the clutch for OU as she doubled to left center to plate a pair of runs. With runners on second and third, senior Georgia Casey brought in the third run of the inning as she laid down a squeeze bunt to score Miller from third.

The lead grew to 4-0 in the third when freshman Lea Wodach drew a bases-loaded walk.

Oklahoma then broke the game open with a four-run fourth.

Pendley drew a one-out walk before Parker singled to center field. Miller then singled to center to score Pendley before Self recorded her second RBI double of the game, plating Parker. Two batters later, junior Whitney Ellis doubled off the wall in left center to extend OU's lead to 8-0.

Kansas didn't get their first hit until the fourth inning, but OU quickly countered that as senior Jessica Vest started a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

A five-run fifth capped off the Sooners' scoring.

With one out and one on, Pendley doubled to left center. An illegal pitch then enabled Chamberlain to score from third before Parker walked to put runners on the corners. Miller collected her second RBI of the game when she sent one through the left side, making it 10-0 in OU's favor.

Self walked to load the bases and sophomore Macey Hatfield came through with a pinch-hit, two-run single to right center. Later in the inning, senior Callie Parsons walked on five pitches with the bases loaded to mark OU's ninth game with at least 13 runs this season.

The Jayhawks got one more hit in the fifth but Pendley got the strikeout to end the game, making sure no KU player got past first base.

OU goes for the series win on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for noon.
