Postgame Notes
Oklahoma at Texas Tech
Feb. 21, 2015
• Oklahoma (19-8, 10-5) was outscored 6-0 the final 1:13 of regulation but bounced back for a 79-75 overtime win at Texas Tech (12-16, 2-13) for its seventh victory in eight games.
• Ahead 67-64 with 7.7 seconds left in regulation, OU's Isaiah Cousins fouled Toddrick Gotcher. Gotcher missed the first free throw and intentionally missed the second. Tech's Isaiah Manderson rebounded and kicked it to Gotcher for a game-tying 3-pointer with 3 seconds left that forced overtime. OU head coach Lon Kruger said after the game it was the first time in his career that fouling late when up by 3 did not work.
• The Sooners never trailed in overtime and outscored the Red Raiders 12-8 in the period. It was OU's first overtime win under Kruger.
• Prior to this week, Oklahoma had one win this season by single digits (64-56 at Oklahoma State on Jan. 31). The Sooners edged Texas 71-69 Tuesday and won by four today.
• Tech's 22 turnovers were one shy of an OU opponent season high, but the Sooners allowed the Red Raiders to shoot 59.1 percent from the field, the highest figure by an opponent this year (the previous opponent season high was 50.0 percent by Baylor on Jan. 24). Oklahoma entered the game ranked sixth nationally by holding foes to a 37.3-percent field goal mark. In their 81-36 win over Tech on Jan. 31, the Sooners held the Raiders to a 21.2-percent figure, the lowest by an opponent in 11 years.
• Despite the fact the game went to overtime, Texas Tech's 44 field goal attempts were the fewest against OU this season.
• Junior guard Isaiah Cousins scored a season-high 22 points on 8-for-15 field goal and 3-for-7 3-point shooting while also registering 2 assists and 3 steals. Cousins is now shooting a Big 12-best .452 from 3-point range on the season.
• Sophomore guard Frank Booker went 4 for 8 from the field (all 3-pointers) and 5 for 5 from the foul line en route to a career-high 17 points in a season-high 26 minutes. It was the third time in four games (fourth time of season) he scored in double figures (averaging 11.5 points on 11-for-23 [.478] 3-point shooting over the last four outings). Booker added 2 assists and 2 steals without a turnover.
• Senior forward TaShawn Thomas had 2 points at halftime but finished with 15, to go along with a team-high 7 rebounds. He was 4 for 7 from the field and knocked down 7 of 9 from the free throw line.
• Junior guard Buddy Hield, the Big 12's leading scorer entering the day (17.2 ppg) was held to 8 points on 3-for-12 shooting, breaking his 20-game streak of scoring in double figures. Hield was 1 for 10 from the field in regulation but hit back-to-back 3-pointers in overtime. He battled foul trouble and played just 29 of 45 minutes.
• Sophomore guard Jordan Woodard fought through a hip pointer much of the game to finish with 8 points and 3 assists. He was 5 for 6 from the free throw line (entered game ranked third in Big 12 with an .836 season mark).
• OU outscored Tech 24-19 off turnovers, the seventh straight game and 22nd time in 27 contests this season it has held the advantage in the category.
