NORMAN – Four Sooners scored in double figures led by Peyton Little's 21 points as No. 17/24 Oklahoma women's basketball earned a 73-47 victory over BYU Thursday at the Lloyd Noble Center.

The Sooners could not miss early from the field, hitting 11 of 16 shots (68.8 percent) and four 3-pointers in the first quarter to jump out to an early advantage over BYU (1-1).

“I'm very proud of our team's response tonight (to the North Texas loss). BYU has a really good basketball team,” head coach Sherri Coale said following the victory. “They are extremely well coached and they are better than they looked tonight. I think we had a little to do with that with the way we defended, and I was pleased with the way we communicated defensively, which is essential to guarding them.

Little led the Sooners in scoring for the third straight game, knocking down four 3-pointers and finishing 6 of 11 from the field against the Cougars. She also hit 5 of 6 free throws – all in the second half. The redshirt junior guard has been OU's top scorer in each of its first three games this season, averaging 18.3 points per game.

Paced by redshirt junior guard Maddie Manning's 13 points in the first quarter, OU took an eight-point lead after the opening frame and extended its advantage by holding the Cougars to just eight points in the second quarter.

Manning knocked down her first three attempts from behind the arc in the first quarter to propel the Sooners into a lead that they would not relinquish. She capped off the strong start by knocking down a jumper off an inbounds play with 00.4 seconds left in the quarter to put OU up 26-17 as the opening frame ended. The Ankeny, Iowa, native tied her career-high with 15 points and finished the night with a team-high seven rebounds and a career-high five assists.

Junior guard Derica Wyatt and senior forward Kaylon Williams also scored in double figures. Wyatt hit two treys in the win and played stingy defense throughout the game against BYU, finishing 10 points and a career-high four steals . Williams was 5 of 8 from the field, scoring 12 points along with three steals.

OU finished the game shooting 45.8 percent (27 of 59) from the floor while BYU shot 31.9 percent (15 of 47). The Sooners recorded 13 steals and scored 24 points off of 24 BYU turnovers.

Lexi Rydlach led the Cougars with a team-high 15 points on 5 of 11 shooting, while Kalani Purcell logged a game-high 14 rebounds.

OU hits the road for the first time this season and faces Bradley on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN3.
