Gioya Carter // So. // G Sophomore guard Gioya Carter led the Sooners in scoring for the second consecutive game with 19. Carter scored the Sooners' first 11 points going 4-4 from the field, including 3-3 from beyond the arc, she finished the first half with 13 points. Carter also hauled in seven rebounds on the night and was a perfect 2-2 from the stripe.

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Oklahoma women's basketball team opened the second half with a 10-0 run to break open a 12-point lead – an advantage it would never relinquish - and picked up its second Big 12 victory in as many games with a 67-59 win over the Kansas Jayhawks Wednesday night at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas.

Sophomore guard Gioya Carter continued her red-hot play with 19 points to lead all scorers. Carter scored the Sooners' first 11 points, going 4-for-4 from the field including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.

Freshman guard LaNesia Williams helped spark the Sooners in the first half as well, pouring in all seven of her points off the bench in a the first frame. L. Williams was a perfect 3-3 from the field.

The Sooners (8-5, 2-0 Big 12) led by as many as nine in the first half, but the Jayhawks (9-6, 0-2 Big 12) cut the lead to just 30-28 at the break. Oklahoma opened the second half by scoring 10 unanswered points to take a 12-point advantage and never looked back.

Redshirt junior forward Kaylon Williams came alive in the second half, scoring 12 of her 14 points in the final 20 minutes and pulled in six of her team-leading 11 rebounds. Oklahoma out rebounded the Jayhawks 37-30 on the night and 15-7 in offensive rebounding.

K. Williams was also tremendous on the defensive end. She recorded the Sooners' only two blocks, and held Kansas's leading scorer Chelsea Gardener (16.1 ppg) to just seven points on the night on 3-10 shooting.

Oklahoma also got offensive production from redshirt sophomore guard Peyton Little. Little was just one point shy of tying a career-high (18) with 17 points on 7-of-16 shooting.

Freshman Gabbi Ortiz added eight points, all in the second half, and filled the stat sheet with three steals, three rebounds and three assists. Ortiz was also a perfect 6-6 from the line, a career-high in made free throws.

The Sooners are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 10, when they head to Lubbock, Texas to take on the Red Raiders of Texas Tech a 2 p.m. CT.
