Postgame Notes
Oklahoma at Texas
Jan. 5, 2015

• Oklahoma earned its first true road win over an AP top-10 opponent in 22 years by beating No. 10 Texas by a 70-49 score in Austin on ESPN Big Monday. It tied as OU's largest road win in the series (75-54 in 2000-01 season).

• The last time the Sooners won a true road game against an AP top-10 opponent was during the 1992-93 season (beat No. 6 Kansas 80-77).

• The 21-point loss for Texas tied as its largest at home during the 17-year Rick Barnes era (75-54 to OU in 2000-01).

• Texas entered the game ranked second nationally in rebounding margin (+14.4 per game) but was outrebounded by OU 42-37. It marked just the second time this season the Longhorns were outboarded (Connecticut posted a 36-35 advantage). OU's performance came on the heels of outboarding Baylor by five on Saturday (the Bears entered that contest ranked fourth nationally with a +11.8 average margin).

• The game featured two of the nation's top defensive teams, as Texas entered the game ranked No. 3 in the country in defensive field goal percentage (.337) and OU ranked No. 12 (.360). The Sooners shot .417 on the night while holding the Longhorns to a .300 mark (their second lowest of the season). Texas became OU's fourth opponent of the year (third in the last four games) to shoot 30.0 percent or less.

• Texas' only lead of the game was 3-2. The Sooners held UT to .200 field goal shooting in taking a 33-14 halftime lead. OU used a 9-2 run to start the second half to go up 42-16 and went up by as many as 28 three times later in the stanza (last was 60-32 with 8:57 remaining).

• The win was OU's second straight in Austin. The Sooners posted an 85-82 win last year and were the only Big 12 team to win in Austin.

• Texas fell to 14-3 in Big 12 home openers under Rick Barnes. Two of those losses have come to OU in the last two years.

• Oklahoma committed only nine turnovers, marking the fourth time in the last five games it has committed less than 10. The Sooners outscored Texas 16-8 off turnovers. OU has outscored each of its last seven opponents off turnovers (133-45 total during that stretch).

• OU outscored a much larger Texas team in the paint, 34-16. Five Longhorns 6-foot-8 or taller played in the contest (Jonathan Holmes, Prince Ibeh, Connor Lammert, Cameron Ridley and Myles Turner) and they combined for 13 points on 5-for-24 (.208) shooting. The quintet entered the game averaging a combined 41.0 points per contest.

• The Sooners held Texas to 23 points below its season scoring average entering the game. Only one of OU's 14 opponents has scored more against the Sooners than it was averaging (Tulsa). No OU opponent has scored more than 69 points this season.

• Senior forward TaShawn Thomas recorded his first double-double as a Sooner and 35th of his career with 12 points and a season-high 11 rebounds. Thomas was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week earlier in the day.

• Junior guard Buddy Hield paced OU with 13 points and added 7 rebounds and 2 assists. He has led OU in scoring in seven of OU's 14 games.

• Junior guard Isaiah Cousins scored 12 points and added 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Cousins was 3 for 5 from 3-point range. Over the last eight games he is shooting .541 from behind the arc (20 for 37).

• Sophomore guard Jordan Woodard finished with 10 points, 4 rebounds and a game-high 6 assists without committing a turnover. Woodard has 39 assists and 9 turnovers over the last seven games for a 4.3 ratio.

• Junior guard Dinjiyl Walker came off the bench to supply 10 points on 4-for-5 field goal shooting. It was his fourth time in double figures this season.

• The Sooners return home to host Kansas State on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT.
