DENVER -- Not one, not two--but three.
The No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team posted a 197.650 on Thursday night to defeat No. 20 Denver on the road in Colorado. With the performance, OU now owns all three of the nation's top three team scores this season (197.850, 197.650, 197.625).
The Sooners are now 5-0 on the season and 3-0 against ranked opponents.
Oklahoma swept individual titles on all four events, paced by a pair of event honors for junior Haley Scaman. Scaman posted no score below a 9.9 on the night, winning vault (9.925) and tying for the bars title with teammate McKenzie Wofford (9.9).
Kara Lovan took home the beam title with a career-high 9.925, capping an outstanding night for the sophomore. Freshman Brenna Dowell was also stellar for OU, snapping up her second floor exercise title in as many meets with a 9.95 performance.
The Sooners opened the night with a solid effort on uneven bars as Wofford and Scaman powered the lineup to a 49.375. The duo led the way with identical 9.9 efforts that included big stuck dismounts from each. Brenna Dowell was excellent in the anchor position as well, hitting her routine for a 9.875 effort.
Ali Jackson made her debut in the scored lineup at the No. 2 spot and shone with a strong 9.85 routine. She was followed by Erica Brewer in the No. 3 position, who earned an identical 9.85.
Oklahoma picked up an early lead over DU in the first rotation as the Pioneers finished with a 49.000 even on vault. Rachel Fielitz led Denver with a 9.875 effort.
OU blazed to a 49.425 on vault in the second rotation, paced by Scaman's meet-best 9.925 performance. Also providing big efforts for the Sooners were Chayse Capps, Dowell and Jackson as the trio each captured 9.9. Junior Maile'ana Kanewa led off for the squad, posting a 9.8 to start the rotation.
After two events, Oklahoma led Denver by a mark of 98.800-98.050. The Pioneers earned a 49.050 on bars, paced by a 9.875 from Nina McGee.
Oklahoma moved to floor for the third rotation and found its groove, posting a season-high 49.450 team score. Dowell posted her big 9.95 effort in the No. 4 position to lead the Sooners, while Kara Lovan captured a 9.9 in the No. 3 position to set up Dowell's effort. Scaman was powerful for OU in the anchor position to cap an outstanding night, earning a 9.9 to seal a big rotation.
Brewer and Capps started the Sooners on a high note, each earning 9.85s in the first two lineup positions.
Denver battled to a 48.600 on beam, paced by a 9.775 from Fielitz in the No. 2 spot. After three events, the Sooners held a commanding 148.250-146.650 lead over the Pioneers.
The squad capped the evening on balance beam, tying the team's season-high with a 49.400 effort. Lovan led the way with her meet-best and career-high 9.925 in the No. 3 spot. Capps was big for OU again, showing a steady and fluid routine in the anchor position to earn a 9.9.
Haley Sorensen continued to shine on beam, capturing a career-high 9.875 as well. Rebecca Clark captured a 9.875 in the No. 2 position, while Brewer was strong in the lead-off position with a 9.85.
Denver earned a 49.250 on floor to close, paced by Nina McGee's powerful 9.925 routine in the anchor spot.
The Sooners will head to Texas to cap their double weekend on Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth. The quad meet will feature No. 1 OU against No. 2 LSU, No. 8 Arkansas and Iowa State at the Fort Worth Convention Center, with live stats available at SoonerSports.com.
