MINNEAPOLIS -- A gritty effort powered the No. 1 Oklahoma gymnastics team past No. 11 Minnesota on Saturday by a final score of 196.500-194.475. OU (2-0) picked up its first road win of the season in its victory over the Golden Gophers (1-2), winning team titles on three of four events en route to victory.

"I thought this was a much-improved performance from a details and landings standpoint," head coach K.J. Kindler. "I also thought we had great energy. That was a focus for us today and I thought it was much better throughout."

Oklahoma took home individual titles on three apparatuses, led by a pair for junior Haley Scaman. Scaman soared to efforts of 9.9 on vault and floor, capturing top honors on both events for the second week in a row. Scaman tied for the title on each event as Chayse Capps also picked up a 9.9 on vault and Kara Lovan earned a 9.9 on floor.

Brenna Dowell rounded out the titles for Oklahoma, capturing the bars title with an exquisite 9.95 routine in the anchor position.

Momentum was the name of the game for Oklahoma on uneven bars to open. The Sooners boosted scores higher and higher with each routine for a 49.350, culminating in Dowell's meet-best effort of 9.95 in the anchor position. Teammate Haley Scaman set her up perfectly in the No. 5 position, nailing her dismount for a 9.9. McKenzie Wofford added a key routine in the No. 4 spot, capturing a 9.875 on a beautiful routine to boost her teammates.

"Brenna has been working very hard to stick that landing on bars," Kindler said. "It is such a difficult dismount to stick and that was impressive. I thought she and McKenzie had near-flawless sets."

Minnesota opened with a 48.950 on vault, supported by a team-high 9.875 from Jenny Covers in the anchor position.

The Sooners moved to vault with a pair of returning stars anchoring the squad's efforts for a 49.325. Scaman and Capps were tops for OU with their meet-best efforts of 9.9 in the anchor and No. 4 positions, respectively. Ali Jackson showed off her big Yurchenko 1.5 in the No. 5 spot for a 9.85 and sophomore Maile'ana Kanewa added an identical 9.85 at the beginning of the lineup to set up her teammates.

"Our vaults were very dynamic today," Kindler added. "It was great having Chayse back in the lineup on floor and vault this week."

The Golden Gophers picked up a 48.875 on bars in the second rotation. Paced by a 9.875 from Ciera Tomson, Minnesota trailed the Sooners 98.675-97.825 at the halfway point.

Oklahoma added a strong 49.225 on floor, with Scaman leading the way once again in the anchor position. She was joined by sophomore Kara Lovan, who shone in the No. 3 spot with clean tumbling and unique choreography for a 9.9. Jackson displayed her sky-high tumbling again for a 9.825 in the No. 5 spot, while Erica Brewer and Chayse Capps led off with 9.8 routines.

"I thought we stepped it up on floor this week, both on our landings an our performance quality," Kindler said.

A 9.9 for Lindsay Mable was tops for Minnesota on beam as the Golden Gophers earned a 48.725 in the third rotation. With only one event remaining, The Sooners led the meet 147.900-146.550.

Oklahoma battled uncharacteristic struggles on beam in the final rotation, fighting to a 48.600. Capps led the way with her rock-solid and fluid routine in the anchor spot for a team-high 9.875. Brewer and Keeley Kmieciak added 9.775 routines, each featuring their difficult double back dismounts.

"Keeley started us off very strong on beam," Kindler said. "I thought Erica also had an excellent night overall."

Minnesota earned a 47.925 on floor to close the meet, including a 9.875 effort from Mable to lead the team. Mable capped her evening by winning the all-around title with a 39.425 overall.

Oklahoma will return home next Friday, Jan. 23 to the friendly confines of the Lloyd Noble Center. The Sooners are set to face TWU and Southeast Missouri State in a 6:45 p.m. tri-meet. Tickets are on sale now at SoonerSports.com.
