OU-West Virginia Postgame Quotes

Return to Recap

Head Coach Lon Kruger
On the game tonight:
"The game was dictated from start to finish by West Virginia. I thought they did a terrific job with their
pressure and we didn't handle that very well. Two things you have to do against a team that's playing like that and playing so well is handle the pressure and try to limit their offensive rebounding, and we didn't do either. The final score is not a surprise since we didn't do either of those things and West Virginia played great."

On playing against the press:
"We didn't handle the ball very well. We turned it over and they got easy points off of those turnovers. It's not just the ball handling, it's a combination of different things."

On if anything surprised him about West Virginia tonight:
"From watching film, they have been playing like this. It wasn't a surprise. They're playing great, they were definitely the aggressor, they're a tough team."

On West Virginia's depth:
"They played a lot of people, and the people who were coming off of the bench were playing well. They have been doing that all year and playing that style requires a deep bench."

On rebounding:
"They (WVU) got 17 offensive rebounds and that's kind of what they do. You can't afford to give up 17 rebounds, but they're good at it. They're aggressive and they were more active getting rebounds."

West Virginia Head Coach Bob Huggins
On success tonight:
"In all honesty, I thought they did a great job. Their spacing was really good. They did some really nice things. We turned a lot of people loose to the goal. Their game plan was really good. However, our ball pressure was very good, much better than we usually are. We did a zone press tonight until they made us play man to man. I thought the pressure was very good. Everybody that we brought in really added to it. I still think it was a cumulative effect. I think some of their guys had to work harder at the end than they're used to."

On improvement since Iowa State:
"We watched four hours of film on Sunday. It's hard to hide the film when you just want to keep looking at it. They walked out of there not thinking, but knowing that they had to do a better job.
Nathan (Adrian) did a great job. He got his hands on the ball, made some steals, and I think he was really good. Jonathan Holton runs like crazy now. They ran the entire game. We do that, but other people don't."

On the bench:
"At one time our bench had 40 and they had 40. That's pretty good."

On Juwan not scoring:
"I thought he was really good in the second half. He had a lot of assists and controlled the game. We
moved the ball. I think I said we had velcro fingers on Saturday, but we were better tonight. We're better when we pass the ball. It opens up driving lanes for us."

On Nathan Adrian:
"He does a lot of things. It's a whole lot better when he makes shots, but he does a lot of other things. We will stick with him."

On the energy of the team:
"This is a much more competitive group. You don't want one loss to lead to another loss. If you lose an extrainning game in baseball you don't want to lose the next day because you lost the night before. When they talk about coaching in the NBA they say you can't hold onto a loss. That's really hard for me. I did my best to make sure that they didn't. I'd like to be 17-0 going into Texas. I'd be a lot happier."
