Knight, Darlington Earn Academic Honors

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight and center Ty Darlington have both been named Capital One Academic All-District honorees as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Knight, a native of San Antonio, Texas, has played in 16 games in his career, including 13 starts (11-2 record). A team captain, Knight has completed over 59 percent of his passes this season and thrown for 2,051 yards and 12 touchdowns. In addition, he has rushed 53 times for 299 yards and five scores. Knight is fifth in the Big 12 in both passing yards per game (256.4) and total offense per game (293.2). A finance major with a 3.31 grade-point average, Knight was recently named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in OU's win at Iowa State on Nov. 1 in which he threw three touchdowns and ran for three more.

Darlington, a native of Apopka, Fla., has played in 20 career games with nine starts at center, including all eight contests this season. A member of the Rimington Trophy Preseason Watch List, Darlington has helped anchor an offensive line that ranks third in the Big 12 in scoring (41.5 points per game) and fourth in total offense (494.6 yards per game). On the ground, OU has the second-best rushing attack with an average of 231.8 yards per game, while the pass offense is fifth in the league at 262.9 yards per game. Darlington has a 3.92 GPA and is majoring in an Arts and Sciences Planned Program.

Knight and Darlington both advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot that will be selected later this month.
